In this video, we’re going to talk about smartphone addiction in teens, children, and adults.

In 2016, a study on 1240 parents found that…
• 50% of teens feel addicted to their smartphones
• 59% of parents believe their kids have a smartphone addiction
• 77% of parents feel their kids get distracted or lose focus when using a smartphone
• 72% of teens feel they need to respond to texts immediately
• 78% of teens check their devices at least hourly

It’s best to be fully invested in what you’re doing rather than constantly being distracted by your phone. This is why I try to only check my texts about two times a day.

Smartphone addictions are similar to drug addictions in that they influence the size and shape of certain parts of the brain—specifically in the parts of the brain that involve emotion, speech, hearing, sight, memory, and self-control.

Your phone emits EMFs, which can cause issues with your brain, heart, circadian rhythm, and fertility.

How can you avoid the effects of smartphone use?
1. Avoid contact with your brain/head
2. Don’t use your smartphone within 2-3 hours of your bedtime
3. Use an EMF protection case

I would think adults are just as addicted as our children.

God bless you for all your efforts. My husband and I agreed yesterday that our 8 year old daughter has become less intelligent since she became addicted to mobile phone. The time has come for us to make a change

Thank you for this video. I am a teacher and banned cell phones from my classroom this year because it was such a problem. I am adding this video to be shown to my students on the first day of school as to why I have banned them. You have said this more eloquently than I could. Thank you, Dr. Berg!

Parents are partially to be blamed for this since a lot of them give phones, tablets, and other stuff to their kids when they are literally still in diapers just to distract them so they behave for a while.

I have two girls of 11 and 13 years old and they have no phones yet. They were ok about it, but recently started complaining about it since literally all of their friends around them have one. I'm so pressurised and don't know what to do now while I still (of course!) see negative aspects much more than positive ones about giving a personal smartphone to children.

A study carried recently in the UK claims cell phones and social media don't cause depression or anxiety in teens, personally I disagree ee n believe that cell phones effect learning social interaction and damage mental health

This is one of the reasons I don’t have many friends, almost everyone just wants to text all day and since I didn’t have a cellphone until last year I’m used to not texting all day and I prefer it. My only addiction would be YouTube lol

Also lack of EOM of our eyes, causes physical changes... elongates the orbit... effects lens & vision.
LoL my husband (63yo) is TOTALLY addicted, he has THREE devices! The only time he doesn't play with his devices is when he sleeps! We have NO personal life anymore! So sad... We've been married almost 30 yrs & I feel like a widow. :(

I setup the timer on my iPad to see how much screen time I was averaging per day and I was shocked how much I wasted my time ! 3.5 hrs a day is way to much . I’ve managed to cut that time in half knowing this now .

Yes, cellphones cause addiction. Just ask my mom, who comes unglued because I put my cellphone in the glove box, forget it for two days, and, then have to answer about how she was so worried, and explain I pay the bill, so I get to decide when and how to use it. I tried once to explain to a couple of teens on the bus that life existed before cellphones, but they looked at me like I belonged at the looney farm.

They are designed specifically to shorten our attention spans and I believe we are seeing the fruit of that. The most difficulty I have with parting from it is, I always think of something I want to look up, then of course I'm distracted by notifications or news.

Even Steve Jobs wouldn't let his kids use iPhones. He knew the problems with using that tech as a human, let alone as a child. It's very sad to see parents using their phones as alternate parents.

And you’re not even touching on your digital footprint or how your activities are monitored, habits collected and data sold. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Forget about kids. I have seen so many parents walking strollers who are walking with their phones in hand swiping the screen. I feel for these poor, bored individuals. What a pitiful life they have.

I still struggle with this myself, but one of the best things I did was to stop notifications to my phone for emails (I don't do social media but would do the same for that too if I did). Before that I was literally checking my phone every couple of minutes to see if there were any new notifications... it's bad, and totally designed to get us hooked. 😞
