Bread makes such a difference. This is why i chose Tony and Nick's (original Tony Lukes), but i NEED to go try Angelo's!

I went to Philly last weekend and picked up Woodrows and Angelo's. Woodrows was by far the best cheesesteak ive ever eaten... until i had Angelo's. Goddamn that was a fucking good cheesesteak.

Angelo’s uses cooper sharp and their homemade bread is great. The cooper gives a unique tang. Woodrow’s is also unique with their cheese blend and cherry pepper mayo. A very good encompassing cheesesteak review of Philly.

I'm from Philadelphia and my spots are John's roast pork cheesesteaks. Dallasandros. Carmen's. Max's. Woodrows. Cleavers. Larry's.

Tony & Nick’s (formerly Tony Luke’s) has really good cheesesteaks. Same with Philip’s on Passyunk.

you need to go to maxes broad and erie also alot of these places give packets of ketchup and mayo on the side thats not how you serve a cheesesteak but you out of town people do what you want

Everything look so good. But I was look for Jim’s steaks down south street. Which is also good. But now I think I’m try some of the places you went to.

I live in Philly and applaud you for your excellent selections. I find Dalassandro’s a bit salty and the meat overly chopped to the point of minced meat paste but to each his own. Other good spots in Roxborough are Chubby’s and Barry’s and you won’t wait 45 minutes. Mama’s in Bala Cynwood. I have never been to Donkeys in Camden but I hear good things. Try Jim’s on South Street when it’s rebuilt from a very unfortunate fire.

John's and Angelos are neck and neck. It's all about the bread and they both use a quality, crusty sesame seeded roll. Personal experience will vary mostly on how quickly that sandwich is freed from its wrappings before the bread starts to turn soft.

In south jersey there is a spot that rivals both Johns and Angelos called Lillo's and is in the same vein, using a high quality sesame roll. Bafflingly, they put the cheesesteak in this box when you order it to go, however, which is just a sauna for the cheesesteak. By the time it gets to its destination the whole thing is mush so you simply can't order Lillos to go.

I haven’t made it to Angelo’s yet but JRP, Mommas Meatballs in NJ and Goombas in Colmar are my faves so far.

I enjoyed seeing the 4th Street Deli and akk of your cheese steak review. Do you think you could do a comparison of varius Philly/Jersey Hoagies? Gotta get the "real" hoagie with the Gabbagol and the goodagine.

If you're gonna allow Rowhome in this list, you should hit Gaul and Co for their "Wit or Witowski" - a kielbasa cheesesteak.

Angelo's is the reigning champ for sure. I prefer JRP over Woodrow's because it is more 'traditional' - matter of preference. Also highly recommend Jim's (now that they reopened) and Max's. And New Jersey has enough Philly transplants to manage their own good food - Donkey's, Boaggio's, several others.
