A father and daughter know the heartbreak of what Bruce Willis is experiencing now that he has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. Sandra Leech started a video diary after her father, Richard Pontious, a former trucker driver, received the same devastating diagnosis. To keep his mind sharp, she gets him to sing along to his favorite songs. Neurologist Clifford Segil says frontotemporal dementia is an uncommon type of dementia.

This is sad! There's nothing as bad as watching someone you know & love deteriorate right in front of your very eyes & theres nothing you can do to make it better. It's soul destroying! I feel for Bruce & his family.

It’s very unfortunate. Knowing how witty, charming, and well-spoken Bruce is. Seeing him in this state is truly sad and I wish him the very best.

I met Bruce back in early 2000. I didn’t even know who he was, but he was fishing in an area and the storm came on. He came into our little village and I saw him sitting looking pale and I went and asked him if he needed a drink so I got him water and coffee. After I walked away, someone told me it was Bruce Willis. Very nice man and very polite

My biggest fear is having some form of memory loss and my kids thinking I forgot about them 😭

Our hero forever. Bruce Willis has always been a father we all wish we had. The world is better because he showed what it meant to be a man/father/husband and hero. Thanks Bruce for being the man we all wish we could have seen in our lives. ❤️ Prayers to his family and children.

God bless ya Bruce! I was just diagnosed fall of 2022 with FTD inherited from my mom's side of the family. Mom is 87 and first noticed changes at 70 with her thought processing, her brother is 92 and was just diagnosed, and I am 65. Their granddad lived until 99 with the disease. I am now taking 10mg dose of donepril (Aricept) every night. Also, I take 60 mg of Gingko Biloba every morning. It has been a tremendous boost. Let's keep going as long as we can!

My prayers to him and his family and friends, I’ve lost people to dementia and it’s so sad to see them go downhill so quickly, it really breaks me every time I meet up with my Grandmother, she remembers a little bit less every time ❤

Imagine living a life like Bruce Willis and completely forgetting what happened before you die 😢

Man this sucks to hear. I'm 61 and have been dealing with chronic pain for years. I'd rather have that, lose my mobility, sense of sight or smell, then lose my intellect. Thankfully, it is not in my family, but I saw my step-grandfather go through Alzheimer's at a relatively young age and it was awful. He had been a brilliant, sharp-witted guy who by the time he was 70's was reduced to baby-talk.

Bruce is only 67 and also a brilliant sharp-witted guy. We've seen it for years. What a gut punch. At least he is blessed by a loving family and still-loving ex-wife. God bless all of them.

Met Bruce where i worked at, super nice guy. Bought me and my coworkers lunch after we said we couldn’t leave our post to join him for lunch (regret it now) so he went out of his way to get us all lunch. Such a kind heart.

He lived a much better life than any of us can even dream of. For that he is very fortunate.

My heart goes out to him & his whole family. My wife has the exact same thing & she got her diagnosis 18 mths ago & is in permanent care now & in the last 4 weeks she has lost 20kgs & at this rate she will be skin & bones within a few weeks & leave us & it’s gonna be hell without her after 18 yrs & 4 beautiful girls I’m going to totally lost with her gone. So I really do feel their pain.

My Dad had Alzheimer’s Disease and I loved him so much. He passed when he was 78 but only was at the moderate stage and still did his woodworking and mowing the lawn (his favorite) and all his hobbies. He always had a great sense of humor and I think that he used that to his advantage 😂 Sending love from Virginia to Bruce and family. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

My dad died last year. He had Vascular Dementia, but never acknowledged it. My 1st thought when seeing this clip was “Oh I should tell dad” He honestly may have been more accepting of his dementia diagnosis if he knew it made him like Bruce Willis. 😢I’m so sorry for him and his loved ones. It sucks!
