The iPad 1, is it obsolete yet?

By popular request, I've done a modern-day review of the iPad 1 (1st Generation iPad) to find out if it is obsolete yet.

EDIT - Apparently I got one fact wrong.. The iPad was introduced April 2010, not March 2011 as I stated in the video.

My mom uses an iPad 1. Her philosophy is "unless it dies, I'm not upgrading". It still works quite well for what it's used for.

You missed one very important consideration. Apple refuses to make or release security patches for any IOS, except the latest version. This means all devices running non-current IOS versions are vulnerable to known security holes. I'd be wary of using an old iPad for e-mail or sensitive internet browsing (bank, bills, accounts, etc.).

100 bucks is way too much for a used ipad 1. Better off with a Nexus 7 if you're going for a budget tablet.

I remember being 10 and wanting one of these. It was only four or five years old, and already this crippled. Nowadays, an eight year old iPad like the iPad Air 2 or Mini 4 work flawlessly for almost EVERYTHING, except for gimmicky Apple features that aren't necessary, and even older iPads like the Air and Mini 2/3 still work with most apps on iOS 12. That's a great track record for support.

The iPad 1 came out in 2010 and was DISCONTINUED in March 2011

I tried my iPad 2 (bought on release) in 2020 and was amazed by the fact that it still works. But it was more a trip down Memory lane than anything else.

I purchased mine for a little over $100 for the sole purpose of Music production / Wireless MIDI control, and it serves it's need perfectly. There are a few workarounds for more apps that require the latest firmware, but for the most part I have more than got my money's worth. I wish the later generations would have kept the older body style instead of making it thinner and far more fragile. This thing can take a serious beating!
