-- Best DSLR Brands for Video? Canon vs Nikon vs Sony vs Panasonic Cameras! --

When you're choosing a DSLR for video, it can be difficult to know where to start. There are some BIG differences between the major brands like Panasonic, Sony, Canon and Nikon! Choosing the ‘Best Camera Brand’ is not a clean cut decision though… Which is ‘Best’ is highly subjective, and what works for you may not work so well for others…

While all individual DSLR (and mirrorless) camera models are unique, each of the brands has it’s own approach to software, features and functionality that tend to carry across the range - meaning that some brands are better suited for some requirements and workflows than others.

Of course, these are just my thoughts based on my own experience and preferences… No doubt what I dislike about certain brands, others will absolutely love!

Thanks for the video but there are a few glaring mistakes when it comes to Nikon. 1st, Nikon has a MASSIVE range of lenses. In fact, they are renowned in the photography world for being able to put a lot of manual lenses from the 70's and 80s straight on to modern bodies without hassles (if you focus manually). This is unlike Canon who have changed their mounting systems quite a few times, meaning more adapters.
Secondly, Nikon are better than Canon when it comes to dynamic range. Again, they are well known for trouncing Canon in this area.

When it comes to Canon and Panasonic vs Sony, you should mention that the latter two have a bigger range of cameras with fully articulating screens. Much better for filming yourself vlog-style or shooting above your head like you may do in a crowd in a concert or just want to film something from a different angle. I'm a fan of Sony but it frustrates me they only do the tilting lcds for most of their serious cameras.

I use Panasonic because you can record up to 4k 30fps at UNDER $500! The camera I'm talking about is the Panasonic G7 14-42mm lens and its SO worth it! (I use the G85 cause it has IBIS)

I know nothing of video, but I am surprised about Nikon being not that good in low light; in photography environments I was always told they were excellent.

All my stuff is Panasonic. I discovered not to use continuous focus and I've been fine since. Had Sony a6500 but it over heated so I returned it and got 2 panasonics. One gx8 and a g7. More than happy. (You may recall me as Chilupian, this is my new tech channel which I haven't uploaded to yet. When I do a lot of what I have put to it will be from all the knowledge you've imparted us! ) 😊

I don't necessarily agree with some of the stuff he's saying. Nikon are usually not the cheaper camera. Usually they're more expensive especially when compared straight across to the competition. Also the video options are actually great and I've had mine for 2 years and still not used everything I could be using. The lenses options are also limitless. I chose Nikon for not only the image quality and overwhelming sharpness when compared straight across brand lines but also the number of lenses- both Nikon and other brands- that were offered when compared to other camera's having way less. Just not sure all this info is accurate.

Hey Justin, thanks for the info, great video. I have experience with Canon and Sony. What you said is so true. I love Canon because of the great colors and ease of use, but I have to use Sony because of $$$. I shoot most of my videos at 120fps in 1080, and Sony provides that feature in its cameras at a much lower cost (I have RX10 and a6300) than Canon does. But, Sony colors are not even close to Canon's. Thanks again my friend.

I shoot Nikon. I went with Nikon in the beginning because of name recognition. I stayed with it because of my investment in glass. I'm satisfied with my D7500 but if I had to start over... I'd shoot Panasonic.

Should I get the Canon 80D or Nikon D7500? Which is better for video?

ok yup...I tuned out the moment you said Nikon had poor low light. That alone told me you have never actually used a Nikon. You can go as far back as the old Nikon D5500s and get great low light. The new ones are so much better.

Nikon FF is great is Low Light. Autofocus is the problem with Nikon.

Hi, great info and presentation. I love the simplicity of your videos. Did the Panasonic wifi allow you to turn on and off the video recording? Thanks!

I have a Nikon D3500 and I would say, go for Nikon, Im not a die hard Nikon fan or something, I know sony and canon are way better for video but
Nikon is way more budget friendly.
You can get great lenses starting from 200$, Nikon has a lot of cheap and really good lenses
The only real downside for me is, the autofocus for video is not good. But you can always manual focus or keep distance

In the end you don't talk about the Fuji cameras, even though you mentioned them at the beginning of the video. What do you think about Fuji ? And Perhaps the X-H1 model ?
