These wood burning oven/stoves were something to master. Not being able to regulate the heat as well as the ovens of today can.. many pies, baked goods etc usually had a burnt or browned crust or edge. That didn't matter none. It's the way it was. Grandma or mom became masters at adjusting dampers and timing foods. I can still remember the weight alone of the eye plate handle. Some pots had round bottoms to put right into the plate hole. Pots were often dented and scratched from use on this stove. Wow, if today's kids only knew!
In the winter, when cooking was done and wood still burned, my father put pine needles and cones in an old pot and the fragrance would waft through the air. Again, memories of my youth. Thank you for this content. It's magic ✨️
