Played a Modern Merfolk mirror at FNM, my opponent played Lord of Atlantis and passed the turn. They very quickly learned what "all other Merfolk gain islandwalk" meant.

I have a merfolk deck that is mostly Lorwyn with some older cards mixed in (including Seasinger and the unmentioned Vodalian Mage) and it is by far my favorite deck to play even after all these years.

Another pretty interesting addition to the tribe came with Theros Beyond Death. "Dalakos, Crafter of Wonders" didn't make much of a splash in standard, but it's such an odd and fun build around for commander
