I live in a fully African family household but my mother has so much respect for Asian culture and really wanted us to indulge in it and respect it because she got kicked out of her house at 15 and was taken in by an old Asian man who took care of her like a father and gave her part of his savings so she can move to England for a better life.

Smartest invention in Asian history…. The training chopsticks

Well this would’ve been helpful. I’ve been training with big girl chopsticks for my whole life. I remember I was so happy when I was finally picked up a single grain of rice. I was eight.

Learning to use chopstick:
1. get 2 sticks
2. try to grab food with the 2 sticks
3. randomly master the skill through time
4. being able to chopstick literally anything

As an Asian kid who just randomly learned how to use chopsticks:

You just are given some and just kind of expected to use them. You’ll provably be told “the bottom one shouldn’t move” but you just learn it randomly.
I can now use chopsticks better than my mom which I find hilarious.

I'm a huge ramen fan, so I taught myself how to use chopsticks by forcing myself to only eat ramen with chopsticks. I improved really fast, and now I actually prefer to eat noodle dishes and many other Asian foods with chopsticks. It just feels better, somehow.

Funny story:

Because im not Asian and my parents don't like Asian cuisine, there was no way for me to get chopsticks. So i used to take the sticks from corndogs and i would use them (or at least try to use them) as chopsticks to eat my food. And i remember i was desperately searching for noodles in the supermarket but there was none. So when they finally brought noodles to my country i was SO happy, i was able to practice my chopstick skills and i even bought real chopsticks online. I still can't use them properly but I'm trying

(Also, apparently everyone in the comments thinks im a guy, but im actually a girl lol)

unfortunately, I developed a criss cross technique with my chopsticks as a young teen so, I ended up developing comfort and muscle memory of that instead. I've tried the proper way before but it felt super uncomfortable so I just do the criss cross technique instead.
But hey, it still grabs my food and I don't feel left out and no one has really said anything, so not a big deal. And I can just use forks and spoons if I don't want chopsticks :D

The fact that i never learnt how to use chopsticks but already knew how to use them out of nowhere. My asian dad must be very special to have me 🥰😏

as a person who knows how to use chopsticks:

Learning how to use chopsticks is like learning how to tie your shoelaces, it can come randomly or you keep trying and eventually get the hang of it.

I’m American but my dad spent his first few years in Japan so he knew how to use chop sticks and I’m glad he taught me very young because I still prefer using chopsticks for ramen and stir fry

As an Asian who loves noodles, I kind of just learned by watching my parents, it was a natural thing.

My household is African American, but we have a great appreciation for different Asian cultures when it comes to food, television, history, etc. I told them years ago I’d throw away all of the silverware if they didn’t learn how to eat with chopsticks. Long story short, we have two sets of eating utensils in the house now. 😂

I also can’t eat any type of noodles without chopsticks. It literally doesn’t feel right.

remember when i was a kid my relatives just threw chopsticks at me. I didnt really understand the mechanics of how to use chopsticks, but magically figured it out really quick.
