Hey BEAT family! I'm so excited about today's video! Did you know the Bible was NOT written in English, but in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek? For this reason, it is helpful to be able to study God's word in the original languages. Here is a quick and easy way to learn how to find the meaning of a Greek word in the New Testament. I hope you enjoy!

Very grateful for this. And so crazy too cause I’ve been using bible study tools this whole time but never for Greek study!
I do wish it was customary for Christians to learn Greek and Hebrew though 😅 it would be so much easier

Yes! People bad mouth the Jewish roots movement, but I will tell you that since my husband and I have studying the Bible through the lens of Jewish culture and language, the Bible has come even more alive. We’ve been in church all of our lives, and we feel like we’ve been deceived the whole time. We’re constantly saying “why aren’t more churches teaching this? How do they not know this?” We read the Bible from a western mindset which is so different from the eastern (specifically, Jewish).

Great video. Especially nice : no annoying background "music" - much easier on my old ears. However, the yellow mouse-cursor circle could use lots more transparency if used on future videos. It almost completely obscured the text being spotlighted. I use theWord Bible software (free) which has the same sort of word study tools.

The Tufts Perseus Greek Word Study Tool is another excellent resource and yes, they have all the books of the Bible in the Tufts Perseus Greek Library. From the Tool I learned that Roman crucifixion was uglier and more shameful than anyone, even Mel Gibson, has let on.

For example, the word _estaurōmenoi_ (from Justin Martyr, Dialogue with Trypho 91.1-2) fetches in the returned definition the parsing "part pl perf m/p masc nom redupl" for the word _stauroō_ which means "fence with pales, pile drive, impale, crucify". The above parsing means "participle, plural, perfect, middle/passive, nominative, reduplicative". It refers to men who are hanged on execution crosses, but it reveals something far worse: it means not only "crucified", but also "self-crucified", which does not make sense *unless* the meaning expressed here includes "pile driven", as in "impaled". And since the parsing includes "reduplicative", it means the action was repeated over and over again.

Not what we are shown in church where Jesus is portrayed in a towel, skirt, or loincloth and nailed to a cross which the Romans called a _tropaeum_ and the Greeks a _tropaion._ Better to believe that Pilate ran out of execution crosses and had to resort to a _tropaeum._ But for those who'd rather confront the ultimate hideous, humiliating truth 🤔 a new dimension to the Crucifixion is revealed.
