A good leader prepares, teaches, motivates, inspires, and encourages those team members in their charge to do their jobs well so that they don't have to step in and do them for them. This dynamic leads to increases in overall productivity, strong team spirit and effort as opposed to frustration, apathy and hostility. When a leader does their job well they don't need to micromanage because they trust in their ability to prepare their team members well and that they are each capable individually and as together as a team to get the job done. 💛

Agree. Leaders must be empathetic, compassionate, and understanding, and should be able to connect with each team member on an individual level. That goes way beyond just being in charge of the work that needs to be done.

This video evoked more emotion than I’m personally comfortable with the transition to being a good worker to being the person who takes care of those in my charge has been mentally one of the toughest battles I’ve been going through since my recent promotion its literally a daily struggle of trying to find the perfect combination of being firm, being understanding, whilst listening and solving issues while still adjusting to letting go of what used to and setting in to what I now have to do

I wish people would recognize this as leadership in real life. This is how I treat my team, but upward management despise me for caring for those below me. Like it pains them to see others succeed in life.

This is the essential lesson (and hurdle) to discipleship. Also the pattern of mastery: learn, do, teach. Interesting that it is so universally applicable.

Exactly! Nobody teaches us how to be a good leader. It's just something we need to learn by trial and error.

I totally agree with Simon as you help advance everyone by showing them what you want done and they respond as a team not individually it makes it way simpler to get the problem solved

"The real job of a leader is not about being in charge. It's about taking care of those in our charge." ~Simon Sinek 👍👍

Love this! Thank you for shedding light on the responsibility that comes with being a leader. "Leadership is an action, not a position."

"You're responsible for those in your charge." Great point.

This is so true! That's why we make such a big effort to listen and care for our employees.

Glad to have found this! Suddenly leading two teams, from being solo for a decade. It's a major adaptation, professionally and personally. I do find myself sticking up vs outgroups for those I think of as my people.

I love you Simon. You’ve ignited the spark of leadership in my life, and then taught me heaps about how to develop my leadership. May your legacy live long 💙

These leadership transitions can be so tricky. Many times, what made us successful in our former job will be the same things that hold us back in the new role as leader.

Leadership is a position of service. Are there some sacrifices to be made? Yes. However, I personally feel and believe that the rewards inherent of service outweigh the sacrifices.

EXACTLY! Leadership means to be at service of people we are taking care of. It is said that when humanity reaches a certain level of maturity the most elite people will decide to willingly sacrifice and lead the nations as a sincere service rather than for the sake of power and other selfish desires!!

Very true. Nobody teaches you once you reach middle management level.
