Had a lawyer say the same thing to me. I told her my Self-employment allows me the time off when I need it for my family. When I was working for a company in management, I could never get away from work for any reason. I make more money now and have flexibility. Self-employment for the win.

That's not her "stress" it's her mentality.

Anyone who has the fortitude and dicipline to be selfemployed deserves all the respect and praise. That shit is hard to do. You can't exactly call in sick, your boss is a jerk and you have to work all hours of the day for basically nothing?

No respext, no trust, no relationship.

My late grandmother was the same way. You weren't "working" unless you were working for someone else.

It means you literally have All the jobs. How many different hats do I wear in the same day vs my employees who get to come clock in, perform their role well, and leave.

Heck, I was cleaning the bathroom an hour after my last employee left tonight.

He’s killing it if he’s self employed making $200k/y. She must be one of those college/degree people.

I personally think to be self-employed is a very honorable thing to do. It ALL RELIES on you the owner to make sure it happens. My Dad was a business owner and made good money, but his equipment was also costly AND costly to repair. I was not raised in the laps of luxury, but I never wanted for anything either!

I remember how delighted I was the first time I signed an $80k job offer.. shared the news with my ex-future inlaws, they looked at me in disgust and said "that's not enough".

My ex-wife didn’t want me to be self-employed either . Turns out she was cheating and didn’t want me around the house at odd hours.

Unless the husband is telling you his gross, not his net amount he makes, as my husband used to tell people. While his gross amount sounded really good, his net was barely above minimum wage. I was so happy when he got a W2 job - he made much more and had his taxes taken out of his paycheck.

I wouldn't be too hard on her. My mom used to tell me the same when I worked for myself. I think it's about security. She grew up in a time where working for a company/someone else was the norm and offered more security. Maybe some of that thinking stayed with some people.
