The “send me the docx” is why I use LaTeX. Nobody modifies something with my name on it without my knowledge.

You Google what you need
And then forget about it
Until the next time you need it
At which point you Google it again

This could not be more true

I love LaTeX but its community is insane. I still remember the SO thread where a guy just asked how to make a nice table with colours and, instead of providing him an answer (as they should), they just kept tearing him a new one because "only a toddler would would want to make a table like this". Lmao

My favourite moments:
1. Including 20+ packages and forgetting what they do and why you included
2. Halfway through my thesis I decided to switch from natbib to biblatex. Just took me 10 hours, but now my Sources are still formatted 99% the same. Worth it.
3. ACTUALLY reading the 60+ pages documentation of package (acro) and starting to realky use it
4. Spending a day to understand the configurations in TeXmaker ( I lied, I didn‘t )
5. When you decide to stop using [H] and just let everything float
6. Fancy Math symbols
7. Knowing the math spacing and brackets by heart

The "send docx" really hits hard home. I wrote my dissertation with LaTeX and the printing press ladies poopood it and demanded the docx. Took days to resolve the logistics of that.

I love the little joke of the "naivety and innocence" message being edited XD These are becoming some of my favorite comic videos online lately - well done!

This video gave me a vietnam-style flashback to the times I was writing my Masters thesis in the middle of lockdown while the PhD student in charge of my research kept telling me my formatting was wrong through angry emails. Good times.

Today I was in class taking notes in LaTeX, and one of my classmates told me, "Stop bragging that you use LaTeX, you offend me"

Yes, obviously, LaTeX has a much steeper learning curve compared to something like Word, and in my first year of Uni I was a bit put off by it when most of my teachers suggested using it.
But boy oh boy, after you get used to it, you are NEVER going back.
Not to mention how easy OverLeaf makes it for multiple editors

I have been using (plain) TeX for 30+ years (I am a mathematician). Previous to that, I actually used Word to create a couple of books/monographs. That was just awful (for example, printing a part of a document having lots of formulas resulted in the partial destruction of the file!). I have written a number of books (both mathematical and not) and edited a (non-math) journal(with self-created automatic table of contents and other features) using TeX, and using interesting commercial fonts. I would not dream of switching back to Word or anything similar.

However, I really wish members of the LaTeX community would look into learning plain TeX. I have never been able to use LaTeX, because it feels like a straitjacket (and tables, once you understand their syntax, are really fairly routine in plain; so is placement of images).

I suspect that this will fall on deaf ears, and I know that the ratio #(LateX users)/#(plainTeX users) is at least 100. Most LaTeX users probably don't know anyone who uses plain.

Wait until you hear about vimtex, it’s absolutely ascendant. Using premade vim shortcuts to type in latex at unbelievable speeds. Unfortunately requires learning vim which I do not have the time to do.
