"How can a bird that was born for joy, sit in a cage and sing?"

If you don't want your pet to fly, DONT GET A BIRD

If you don't want a pet that barks don't get a dog. If you don't want a pet that has claws don't get a cat. If you don't want a pet that Flys don't get a bird. Us as humans don't have the right to surgically mutilate animals just to make them how we want them for us to own them. If you don't appreciate how the animal is, get a plushie. We should all ban together to try and stop debarking, declawing and wing clipping.

This is the equivalent of getting a fish and not wanting the fish to swim.

Imagine a bird who wants to fly but can't. I think they can also experience depression

I used to clip my birds wings but for a good reason. My bird wasn’t able to control herself when flying and would fly into windows, walls, and the ceiling resulting in her getting very hurt (broke her beak, started to bleed many times) because of this I started with clipping only a few feathers but that didn’t help at all, I ended up clipping all her wing feathers, taught her how to fly better and be cautious. Now she no longer needs clipped wings and can fly around the house freely without getting hurt.

Edit: Can some people actually stop hating. Like bro, I never wanted to clip her wings but I HAD to or else she would have died. On top of all that she already came from a VERY abusive household (they kept 20+ cockatiels in 1 small cage) and I saved her (+2 other birds). If I ever thought of letting her outside I would basically be letting her die firstly because she's a cockatiel and these birds aren't native to where I live, secondly, she grew up in a cage and already had problems with flying as she was never taught to do so because of the lack of space in the cage, so letting her out would result in her being easy prey for predators. Lastly, for anyone saying that I shouldn't have had a bird in the house in the first place, I hate to break it to you but I will continue to adopt birds and care for them until the day I die as I love these animals and would love to care for them and give them loving homes for the rest of their life. Again, I never wanted to clip her wings, I HAD to clip them for medical reasons, and the type of wing clipping I had done was by vets who insisted on getting her wings clipped until she knew how to fly better. Her feathers grew back normally, she learned how to fly without getting hurt and can now fly around my house freely!

People do that to their birds when their wing is injured and they keep flying. But whoever actually does that is crazy.

Can't believe people would just cut off their feathers like that. It's so sad😢

I also have a parrot...I don't cut her wings and have never kept it in cage..I have owned her since the day she was born..and it keeps flying around the house. And every day she go outside from the house for 2 hours of flying in the morning and evening...when I call her, she comes to my house...animals are loved so much that they themselves want to stay near you...Don't hurt them and keep them tied for your own happiness.

I wish I could let my little buddy fly like this. Poor guy has a neurological condition that affects balance. He would take off, only to crash right into the ground. 😢

Birds look amazing when they fly. I don’t understand why people take away their beauty just so they can have an authentic pet

sometimes its for medical reasons, but if you can, keeping the birds wings unclipped is preferable.

There is an official reason as to why people do this, mostly Vets.
When a bird Gets injured, them flying around runs a risk of them worsening the injury. Possibly even causing death.
So they temporarily remove their ability to fly by clipping the ends of the wing feathers until the injury is fully healed.
It happened with my step brothers love birds when one of the them were injured in a flying accident. They clipped the wings to prevent further injury.

On top of that, if someone does clip a bird’s wings for whatever reason, you’re only meant to clip a few of the flight feathers, not the whole wing. My bird had her wings clipped before I got her (not my choice of course) but the person who did it only clipped a few so she could still flutter. Now her wings have grown back and she can fly again, and she’s so much happier.

I bought a bird that I didn't know had his flight feathers clipped, he apparently got out of the cage the night I had gone over to my sister's and my mums dog got him. Birds need wings to protect themselves.
