Bedard Broken Jaw Injury #shorts
Показать описание
Maxillofacial injuries are on the rise, and it's crucial that we understand the factors influencing these injuries for better prevention and treatment. The mandible (jaw bone), the only movable bone in the maxillofacial region, is particularly prone to fractures. Factors influencing the location of these fractures include age, health status, and external forces applied. Did you know that the mandible is more likely to fracture in males and those in their 20s? The most common site of fracture is the symphysis, the anterior part of the lower jaw. Surprisingly, daily activities such as falls and collisions are the leading cause of these fractures, not just high-impact accidents. Understanding these factors can help us not only in treating these fractures but also in educating the public on prevention strategies.
.
Treatment for a fractured jaw depends on how badly the bone is broken. Depending on the location of your fracture, if you have a minor fracture, it may heal on its own. You may only need pain management and stay on a soft or liquid diet for a while. Surgery is often needed for moderate to severe fractures. The lower jaw may be wired to the teeth of the upper jaw to keep the jaws stable while the fractures heal. Jaw wires are usually left in place for 4-6 weeks. Small rubber bands (elastics) are sometimes used to hold the teeth together. After a few weeks, some of the elastics are removed to allow motion and reduce joint stiffness. If the jaws are wired, you can only drink liquids or eat liquified foods.
.
For severe #JawFracture your oral and maxillofacial surgeon will have to do surgery to realign the bone and hold the bony segments in their proper position with a piece of metal and/or screws. It may be possible to do this surgery without being admitted to a hospital, or even in a surgery center.
Timely follow-up with your oral and maxillofacial surgeon is required in order to prevent long-term complications and obtain ultimate outcomes.
