Walk through of my off grid home in Maine

Hello everyone 😊 I had some requests to do a walk through of my off grid home/camp. It is still a work in progress even though I have lived here just over 4 years now. It is good to see someone trying to live off grid. If this were my little cabin, I would put insulation between the rafters and then nail thin sheets of plywood over the rafters to create an insulated ceiling that could be painted white. The white paint would reflect light and help brighten the interior of the cabin.

The next thing I would do is go to a hardware store and buy some sturdy metal shelving units deep enough to hold tote bins. That heavy duty shelving units + tote bins could reduce the cabin's clutter by stowing away extra supplies and seasonal things. I would also put the bed on risers so boxes of clothing or supplies could be stored beneath the bed. And I would put doors, painted a light color, on the kitchen cabinets to help hide clutter and keep dust off the dishes and glassware. The less visible clutter you have, the more spacious your small cabin will seem.

exit 217 here, great video. Cozy and warm is key in Maine in winter. A warm, dry, safe place, everything beyond food, water is a luxury. Nice brook and yard. Mainers love our wood stoves.

There is nothing like living by a creek - or heating with a woodstove. Both, in their different ways, are good for the soul. Hats off to you and your dad for doing what so many say they want to. Living in a cabin that's not wired for electricity definitely dictates how you spend the hours of your days (and nights) - it's the kind of forced discipline lots of us could use! Enjoy winter - it truly is a magical season to be in the wilds of the Maine frontier!

Exit 286 here. Like you simple off grid on 5 acres. Retired 6 years now.
I put a couple solar panels on pvc pipe attached to my porch so l can turn them as the sun goes across the winter horizon.

Congratulations on figuring out how to live the life style of your choice. I’m sure many of your ‘subs’ envy you. I’m guessing that some of the creature comforts we urbanites take for granted are absent from your camp. In any event, you are proof it can be done.

Great spot i live at my canp in Maine i have a very similar set up don't change anything nice to have a stream that close we got a spring not far away i used to live in the city never going back
