Beijing authorities love California Governor Gavin Newson. Xi Jinping warmly welcomed Newsom in Beijing. Their meeting was headline news, beating the death of former premier Li Keqiang. China’s vice president, Han Zhen, called Newson an old friend. When Newsom played basketball with some Chinese kids and bumped into a boy and fell on him, Newsom’s critics in the U.S. questioned how he ran over a child and why he had to go to China.

All of US business is connected to China---whether small or corporate. My governor has gone to Canada for business as well. US local/federal gov is massively corrupt, so he needs to secure areas of the California economy, bcs its bigger than most small countries.

Schwarzenegger and Brown also took trips to China. As California leads the country in GDP, population, tech innovation, climate initiatives, etc. it's understandable that our Governor would take part in keeping diplomatic relations from falling apart. Xi sent Wang Yi, Biden sent Newsom and this was a warm-up to a potential meeting at APEC.
