China’s aggressive push into overseas markets with its own electric vehicles has sparked a backlash in the US and Europe.

Governments are looking to protect their domestic car makers. An anti-subsidy investigation is wrapping up in the coming weeks and a response from Brussels is expected.

But with annual sales of electric vehicles already above 30% of all cars in China, the mood there remains optimistic.

Westerners complaining that the Chinese are outcompeting them in capitalism. Interesting times we live in.

If it was American or any other Western nation the headlines would have been, "American EV makers leads the world with record sales"

Chinese EVs are not inexpensive. It’s the Western car makers that have been excessively profiteering from the car buyers. we’re all conditioned to think cars should cost more than they should.

Unfair Advantage is not a legitimate criticism. Amazon has an unfair advantage in e-commerce and Google has an unfair advantage in search.

It must be clarified to our Western friends that the Chinese government has long ended its subsidies to car companies. Currently, it is only reducing commodity taxes for consumers. Chinese car companies are engaging in liberalized market competition.

BBC as usual didn't mention the subsidies by EU as a balanced argument, don't expect them to have a un-bias coverage of anything China. In that sense I think DW does a way better job.

Yes. Why is this even a question? 😂
BYD surpassed Tesla in 2023. And this is just the beginning.

Isn't the US heavily subsidising its own EV industry with its inflation reductions act??? If I recall only US made EVs can obtain government credit worth 7k USD, surely that runs blatantly against WTO rules, no?

Customers feel that Chinese EV cheap only because German and Japan has been enjoying massive profit from their products. Vehicles should not be that expensive in the first place.

Why is this even a question? You now can say evs are evil, that will make you feel better.

Nio has the most charging piles in China and they never received any subsidies. They were bailed out once but needed to give up a piece of the company to the government which they’ve been buying back by repaying the loan. Nio has never received subsidies so it’s infuriating this is what the u.s and e.u are saying because they were late to the party and can’t compete. Maybe if they didn’t spend so much money on wars they could build some half decent infrastructure

Remember when desktop PC prices were very high since they were manufactured in the US? After the components get made in China, the computers became more affordable. Similar thing would likely happen to EV industry

Loads of lies in the video. EU has been giving funds to the "Electric" cars funds already.... Now the Chinese keeps on building better cars. EU is doomed
