A year ago I commented and told you my husband and I wanted to homestead. We just bought 7 head of Dexter cattle and we're going to use one of our girls for milking. Thankful for your helpful content!

Me & my husband plan on going off-grid within now and 3 years, and currently we're in the research planning prepping stage! Both major cityfolk, ive never touched a chicken or cow in my life. Your video's help me SO much, i learn just about everything, except the things that can be learned by living them. He's set on a Jersey now!

My dad always talked about how he raised steer on his g randfather's farm and just the other day my mom told me about how her dad once raised a calf and how HIS grandmother had chickens. I've been going on and on about farms, and begging my parents to let me have chickens for literaly YEARS. I'll be applying to work at a publix soon and then i'll be using that money to get my chickens. Zoning allows up to four (suburban georgia.)
one day i hope to have a homestead of my own. somewhere near the mountains in NC maybe...

Thank you for your videos! You’ve helped inspire us and we are getting our first mid mini jerseys this week. Holy Shazam! We’re scared and excited all at once! Your videos have really been super informative and practical.

Watched your livestock video and didn't realize mini jerseys were easier then goats. We were gonna get goats but i think we are now gonna get mini jersey. We have 2.7acres with our house. I plan on fencing in about an acre and using it for the jersey. I subscibed to your channel!

I love them and have only helped with cattle a few times when I was 12. I’m getting a milk cow then probably a couple more. I’m so excited to learn all about them with a shorthorn milking cattle farm down my new road. This was a fabulous discussion. Thank you.

Jersey cows are so cute, even with how big they are they're still adorable. Thier eyes in particular are quite beautiful.

Set ree range chickens out behind the cows about 3 days after and they will clean up the fly larvae!

Good teaching video. We know horses- 30 years worth, but now they and us are getting older. Thinking of getting a few cows to help with the pastures. They will have a forever home with us and life of freedom. Still trying to figure out which breeds are more docile.

I have owned goats almost all my life. I'll tell you, they are not as easy as cows. I have some horse experience and Donkeys. I prefer Donkeys hands down.

I remember my first day with my first Jersey cow Fanny very well. She was a full sized adult, 1, 000lb 4 years old. The prior owner just handed me her lead and away we went! She pulled me a couple feet and once tension was on her face, the halter she stopped. I began walking her every day. Several times a day and we became friends. She had 2 bad quarters but I could milk her anywhere. I put my head against her side and she would stand. Fanny was bred, but her ultrasound showed a "Mummy calf" a very rare situation that can't usually be resolved. I then realized why she was given to me. 5 years later we currently keep 3 Jersey cows and 3 Hereford, one Hereford is our bull. If you visit farms and do your research you will find the breed and size animal that fits your situation.

For better tasting goat milk, one must feed good quality food to the goats. If the goats eat goldenrod then the milk will taste like goldenrod. Also another thing a person needs to do is cool the milk immediately after milking, such as put the container of milk in ice water. If it is not done then bacteria has a chance to multiply faster and the milk won't last as long.

I love the idea of owning a cow and there is a local farmer who is selling off their herd of brown swiss and they have 2 cows that have been exposed to a bull and they want 700 each. But I dont have any clue what I would do with 8 gallons of milk a day from just one of them.

I’m a goat milker. I love my goat, but I have 6 kids that drink a lot of milk! I really need a cow!! I’m on the hunt for my first Jersey now.

I rather buy a cow as a pet & breed & have her calves running around & for milk & raise than have one for meat!
