Thanks for the tips😁. It really encouraged me to hear the last one, I have that problem. I have gotten into that habit a little already, so it really helped to hear you give these tips.

Thanks Alec I needed that, been tough expanding my horizons with life getting in the way. I am sure it is the same for everyone though, so at times you just have to dig in that back foot and take that mighty swing for the fences . Well helll just get it done!

Hey dude! Don’t want to be the sappy random guy on the internet, but I do feel like you reading this can also make you feel good! I have always wanted to be creative and I never knew where to start, finding you and Doug was like that light switch moment! It felt so great to follow along with your carving videos, but I always though that that’s all I would be able to do was follow along. SO, one day I decided to imitate your magazine cover ( on a much smaller scale ) from only using the photo as a reference no video.. and boyo that shit came out looking sweet, that was my freeing moment. I am now realizing all the following along with you was actually building skills within me I didn’t even know about! I am now sitting here and being able to put these images I have in my head to life through wood, and it’s f*^king awesome! I have just left my job and want to purse this passion of mine and continue growing my skills, and selling pieces !! Watching your video today and you talk about all the people saying don’t do it is so true, whether they say it directly or indirectly the opinion is there. I understand where they are coming from in a love way, but you are right, I want to be able to look at this moment in the future and say “ wow, I am glad I stuck to my gut and made it here”

ANYWAYS.. there is my rant, thanks for listening to my Ted talk.

Wishing you and anyone reading this truly all the best in life and their* passions.

I like to make my own tools as much as I like using them. The tool making is an addiction itself

Just doing the work…inspiration will come because you do the work. Octavia Butler is my favorite science fiction author, and has this wonderful quote: “First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you're inspired or not. Habit will help you finish and polish your stories.”

Love this video Alec, really useful information. I have done some minor carving over the years but have really immersed myself in it in the last year. Have bought some quality tools, but my problem is trying to find tools to buy. Seems like they are always out of stock, or I can't find the tools I want. Frustrating. Thank you for doing what you do.

True, but also wisdom comes with experience!! I wish that I knew what I know now, then when I was young(I am 65)

I see you, and Doug Linker, use OCC knives, but when searching for those I find this disclaimer:

"Please note:  All OCC wood carving knives, wood carving tools, spoon gouges and other tools are now made in Beloit, WI.  OCC Tools was sold to Kryshak Carving Tools in October of 2022.  New tools come with the new KCT logo."

Do you still recommend those knives, under their new management?

Thank you so much for all the instruction and information you provide, I love your videos!

Wow this is the best advice ever. I built church furniture for over ten years and we had a carver from Germany who was a master carver and I'm telling you there was absolutely nothing this guy could not carve with any tool. He was amazing. Love your videos man

I guess you could say
The naysayers were trying to WHITTLE your resolve down to nothing?
(I'm sorry that joke was terrible. I appreciate finding this video since I want to get into carving and I'll definitely keep this is mind when I start)

Add one more to that. Do not listen to your own criticism get many other people to check your work because you yourself can be your worst critic. Thanks Alec this really helped me
