Russia didn't jail Pavel Durov. But they pressured him to give them access into his former company VK. Instead he abandoned VK for the Russian govt and went ahead to create Telegram.

He moved to America but only ended up getting visited by the FBI. He realized that the US govt also wanted the same thing Russian govt wanted, which is illegal backdoor access. So he left US and settled in Dubai, where the govt never bothered him.

Its crazy that Dubai which is not a democracy, neither does it promote free speech, actually ignored Telegram and never demanded for backdoor access to user data.
But it is France, a country that promotes "free speech" and calls itself a democracy, that jailed Durov.

That's the crazy world we live in.

By the way, this is proof to anyone who never believed it that Mark Zuckerberg has been giving user data to govts from Facebook and Instagram, and censoring free speech. That's why they never bother him.
