Reports: Founder of Telegram messaging app arrested in France

The founder of the Telegram messaging app was allegedly arrested outside Paris for not moderating criminal activity on the platform, according to French media. The app is popular among pro-democracy activists. Police have not yet confirmed the arrest.

Failing to moderate criminal activity? The local police didn’t do anything about it when Kias were being stolen left and right last year. They didn’t consider it a big deal because it was “just” a property crime (even though it cost victims thousands of dollars and disrupted their lives in substantial ways). State and local governments failed to moderate that criminal activity, and now the people who got away with it have moved on to carjacking. I could take these telegram charges more seriously if officials took crimes against regular citizens more seriously.
