The prime minister is suggesting that tax cuts will be on the horizon if the government successfully tightens the rules for claiming out-of-work and sick benefits. Rishi Sunak made his stance on welfare and financial policies as part of his growing election campaign.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, the prime minister aimed to highlight the differences between the Conservatives and Labour as the election campaign gains momentum.

Petrie Hosken speaks with deputy policy editor Sophia Worringer and autor Richard Power-Sayeed.

52% of the workforce get some kind of benefit 😮that’s because government allows low wages and it topped up by tax credits, while billionaires get away with paying minimum wage 🙄

Cut off the money to imports, cut off money to imports that won’t work. Put Brits first. 🇬🇧

Benefits should be payable to citizens born in British. No one else.

Everyone hates benefits until they become poorly themselves, many people who have benefits now have worked their backsides off for years, no sit down jobs for many, those that work hard graft have more chance of illness

People are fed up with their workers' rights disappearing
First it was zero-hour contracts
Then it was external recruiters
Then it was the 'self-employed' gig economy
Then their retirement age was increased
Why would anyone have any pride or incentive to work anymore

This was a concern of mine (abuse of the system is still an issue), however funding illegals to live in hotels is the priority, and they have failed miserably on this . Historically Labour would be worse.
I will be protest voting (Reform) as I now have no confidence either of the major parties have any desire to tackle this in any meaningful way.

Biggest elephant in smallest room start with the colossal cost of illegals.

Many who complain about ill people on benefits have never done a hard physical days work in their life, they have no chance of wearing themselves out, many people sitting on their backsides in high paid jobs all day, many supposedly working from home don't know what hard work is. How would you survive if you were ill and couldn't work? I don't mean pretend ill I mean genuinely ill?

There used to be a manufacturing company called Remploy that had factories all over the country who employed disabled WW2 war veterans from 1945, then it employed disabled people up to its closure in 2006 . Every single disabled person who worked there has never found a job since it closed down. That company had different divisions that did:
Electrical Assembly.
Cabinet making.
Bookbinding.
Textiles including a big contract providing the army with combat clothing.
But not one employer gave them a job because of being disabled.

You need to remember, many of these people have paid into the system for many years, it's there in case they ever need it, its meant for those that pay in not meant to be given away to new arrivals

How do you separate genuine claimants from the rest? I have worked for most of my life, and now with arthritis and many falls, I can't even go to the shops.

95.8% of the people are in work 😊 with AI coming in and businesses to close due to high energy bills, we better get used to millions being on benefits 🙄

Look over there, no over there. Ffs its called division. You journalists are ridiculous. We have thousands of migrants in this country. Keep your eye on them, please. You all have a very short attention span.

If a couple are on benefits and going on holiday three times a year, they are defrauding the benefit's system. I am no longer able to work because, when I was working, I pushed my self too hard and now have chronic heart failure. I can't afford to go on holiday at all. Don’t let reality get in the way of your selfish assumptions. When you cut their benefits, you also cut mine.
