Over the last several months YouTube has had a serious problem when it comes to the comments and it's something I've seen continue to ramp up more and more recently.

Jon, thank you for keeping us updated on these types of scams. They may seem obvious to some but people still may get tricked. I have been around since before the switch launch, thank you for the years of excellent content.

I saw a few of these and have reported them but doesn’t seem to make a difference. I believe there are only 2 people that actually work at YouTube and one of them doesn’t show up half the time.

I think the worst part of this situation is that either YouTube isn't going to do anything about it, or try and "fix it" but in reality make it bad for everyone.

This would fall into social engineering. People are always a weak link. The best you can do is educate them, as you just did, on things to look out for. Unfortunately there will be people who still fall for it.

We all have to do our part.
Report>Unwanted Commercial Content
Unfortunately YouTube does not have an option to report for impersonating another user. Kinda feel like they should, but knowing YouTube, they'd probably screw it up and kick off the real one.

Your channel rocks man, keep up the great content!

I never clicked on those "impersonators". Is pretty obvious they are scammers/phishers. Is good you are making a video to highlight these comments so that others do not click/act on those links/whatever emails/contact details.

I've noticed a lot of bots like this lately, not just here on spawn wave but on pretty much all the channels I watch. I try to report them whenever I see them but it's kind of a losing battle...

Youtube support has been nearly absent at best for smaller creators. They usually use bots for support. Even larger creators have to go through hoops just to get their accounts back from hackers. I really hope they fix this.

This problem is so bad and the sad part is that I think a lot of YouTubers are choosing to avoid giveaways so people won't think these are legit.

Youtube in a couple of days: For the sake of our independent creators and to support small channels we have decided to disable the comment section. No need to thank us, but go ahead

It’s good that more creators are tackling it head on recently, pressure makes a difference. This is a negative hurdle in otherwise great community. Hopefully YouTube won’t take out the comment section altogether, * Sigh * …

It's disappointing that these bots are popping up. I thankful for you actually caring about your fan base and warning us

I have noticed the spam comments more and more which is frustrating.

I have also started noticing that whenever you make a post or go to someone else's post to reply, sometimes it will indicate that there are for e.g. 4 replies and when you click on the post there are only 2 or 3 with the other comments nowhere to be seen.

Best way to deal with this = on every video/live moving forward take 15 secs to remind ppl to avoide these fake users' comments. And thats it.

I have noticed that whenever people make a video specifically addressing this issue these scam comments seem to stop. We just need to keep reporting them to YouTube until they actually do something to stop them.

It's amazing how many people have no abilty to recognize scams/phishing attempts when they see them.

MVG had same issue with someone claiming to run a contest as him. It’s a sign you’ve made it! They only do this with channels that are large enough to impersonate. Hopefully YouTube can help content creators like you combat this. Thankfully… most of us know this is BS and we just ignore it. Sorry to hear it’s hit you too. :(

The amount of scamming thats taking place, not just in social media but in life in general, is alarming. There is no shortage of low-lifes out there trying to take advantage of everyone.
