In this enlightening video, we explore a common misconception surrounding the Quranic verses about covering the head, particularly in Surah number 24. This confusion is remarkably common. It appears that the Arabic language offers multiple words for covering the head, around nine to be exact!. One of these words is "Khimar," which encompasses different lengths and styles of head coverings.

What's fascinating is that the word commonly associated with head covering today, "hijab," isn't the term used in the Quran. It originally meant "barrier" and could refer to a wall or curtain. However, it evolved to be synonymous with head covering. Our exploration goes deeper, highlighting the nuanced meanings and lengths associated with various Arabic words for head coverings.

The Quranic verse suggests that women should take their coverings and throw them in front of their chests, emphasizing the importance of the head cover. The Arabic language, rich in its depth, includes this meaning within the word itself. The discussion broadens as we reflect on how translations may oversimplify the issue, leading to misunderstandings. The video aims to shed light on the intricacies of the Arabic language, encouraging a deeper understanding of the Quranic verses related to modesty.

See it this way: The head of an Arab woman in the pre islamic times had always been covered due to heat, protection from sand/ dirt, enemies etc. etc. actually it had always been there even before Islam. So when Allah says cover your chest, the arab woemn of that time would not have questioned the covering of the head because their heads had already been covered. A new meaning basically was added, namely, the covering of the chest. So for Arab women at that time it was clear that when they cover their chests, their head will remain covered too!

I can’t agree with your translation of the word ‘khimar’. Khimar means a covering and has no implication of this cover being related to the head. A table cloth could be a khimar. In the Holy Quran, as far as I remember, Allah instructs women to drag a khimar over their bosoms. He does not mention anything about dragging the covering or khimar from the head (as one would a head cover).

Indeed it is interesting though how the word ‘hijab’ became synonymous with covering the head in spite of the word not being mentioned even once in the Quran, and having other connotations such as barrier etc.

It is my opinion that women wearing a covering over their heads is a cultural sign of modesty and we witness this in many cultures around the world. It may have little to do with religious obligation, but has somehow become synonymous with it. It was obligatory for the wives of the prophet (pbuh) to uphold a veil between them and other men who would visit the household to avoid false rumours of infidelity to spread amongst the community. But was not required by other Muslim women. And over time Muslim women in general voluntarily imitated this practice of veiling themselves from men to acquire a similar sense of respect in their households.

I think the coolest part is when he explains the word mutakhammir, which describes a horse that has different colors on the head to the neck from the body. He also explains the word khamar, substance that cause our head covered and lose our ability to think. So basically khimar means sth covering the head

Hijab is the name of covering head. Whatever its curtain or anything.

Some Muslims have openly adopted arguing and disrespect towards mualims and Sheikhs..

No more attitude of " we hear and obey " from learned scholars, just argue.

If you don't trust your scholars move on to scholars you can trust, but arguing and overriding their knowledge with your 2 cents is annoying....and it lacks proper adhab.

Veiling (hijab) is mandated in all religions. Throughout history, in all ancient civilizations, women have covered their heads and worn modest clothing. In Central Asia, Africa, India, China, and Japan, women's attire was long and modest. Have we seen old photographs of these civilizations where women wore pants or skirts above the knee?

Some progressive women from Arab countries, forty years ago, filled the world with protests, claiming that hijab and modest dress are foreign to the culture of desert Bedouins and the Arabian Peninsula.

However, with modern means—such as photographs and videos—images of ancient Arab cities have emerged from around 80 years ago, showing women veiled or even fully veiled. Denying these facts and realities is not justified by shouting, lying, or fabricating stories, because, as the saying goes, a lie has a short shelf life.

The new Western fashion trends and nudity are foreign imports that only became widespread starting in the 1950s and later — even in America and Europe themselves.

In Sura ahzab it is mentioned "waraaa hijab " behind hijab . In case of conversion with prophet's wife so that the prophets don't become sad.

It's sunnah for men to cover their head too. So if youre a man who doesn't cover their heads....be careful. You could lip into nifaq, hypocrisy, by telling others to do something that you yourself dont do

imagine during corona times when the health ministers had ordered us to cover our eyes. Imagine they would have sais : cover your eyes!“ we would not only have covered our eyes but we would also have kept our masks, too. So we would have had our moutgs and eyes covered. Noone would have asked :“and what about our mouths?“ Because this was a thing we all were doing all the time
