Glad to hear this. So many boomers say that no one loves you as much as your parents. But it’s absolutely not true. No one loves you as much as your kids. My parents made it very clear they wanted absolutely no relationship with me. And yet even now, after they are gone, I still wish I could somehow connect. It never goes away for me, and it never occurred to them.

When you were bitter, and you messed up your relationship with your children. Now they are adults.. it is like losing everything that was meaningful to you. You become the most depressed father who can no longer communicate with your children. Don't ever ever loose contact with your children. When your have been divorced, skip going out with friends to the bar, do something that you will remember doing with your children. watch a movie together at minimum, play a game with them. Do something good for them! Make them feel like they are special to you because they are. Do this for yourself because you will always be thinking about it when you didn't do that with out them being around.

Totally agree and I love being mum of 4.you only can achieve the good relationship with your kids if you let them be themselves not someone that you wish they were.

You know I’m so so so so grateful that my relationship with my two sons is so so good and I tell myself all the time how good our time together is there mother and I separated 2 years ago and it devastated me beyond anything I’ve ever felt but I remind myself of my boys and it has brought us so close and I don’t hold any bitterness just sadness life is a struggle but the children my o my just on a whole new perspective truly. And hey don’t even get me started on the love of a dog jeez

In my 30s.. and this isn't true for me :/ I have very limited communication with my parents... Especially my mom. Lots of physiological abuse.
