The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) is celebrating its 75th Anniversary at the Washington Summit from 9 to11 July. With the introduction of the strategic concept in Madrid in 2022, and its implementation in Vilnius in 2023, this summer, 32 Allies are expected to reaffirm their unwavering support for Ukraine and decide on the country’s future membership in the Alliance. They are also expected to step up their commitment to strengthen deterrence and defence, encourage long-term investment in defence production and expand global partnerships.

Hear directly from Jamie Shea, Senior Fellow at Friends of Europe and former Deputy Assistant NATO Secretary General on his take on the results of the Washington Summit and what it means for Euro-Atlantic security and Ukraine. The key themes covered will be the decision on Ukraine’s future membership in the Alliance, the question of whether the next NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will be able to meet the needs of the Alliance and respond to the existing challenges and what will be done to increase readiness and resilience of NATO.
