The worst part is that if you have American citizenship you will be taxed by them, even if your in another country unlike other countries. This makes renouncing American citizenship very sought after compared to with other countries

Also fun fact, the U.S. is one of two countries in the world (Eritrea being the other) that taxes based on citizenship and not by country of residence. Meaning, as a US citizen, if you live in another country but still have a U S. citizenship, you will be paying both your host country's taxes _and_ U.S. federal taxes. God bless Uncle Sam

To make it more expensive, the US taxes citizenship not residency. Which means the time while you're living in another country getting citizenship there, you still have to pay US taxes on top of your new country's taxes

I feel like every time somebody makes a reasonable criticism of something about the US you hear some guy yelling "well, if you don't like it just leave".
Funnily enough, leaving the US and moving elsewhere is yet another problem and criticism of the u.s. lol.

Bureaucracy in America is a joke. From the intelligence agencies, Irs, and even to the local dps office, it's all terrible!

Aside from being an obvious money grab, why does renouncing your citizenship cost anything at all? All that's really necessary is moving to another country, getting citizenship there, and proving your citizenship to your old country.

- government likes money
- dual citizenship is easy for americans

It can be denied if they think it is for tax reasons, not just billionaires moving somewhere cheaper but people who live abroad and are paying double taxes because the us bases it of citizenship, not just residency
