WATCH: Little Women

Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a Little Women that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on her own terms -- is both timeless and timely. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbor Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.

i do think amy wasn’t being empathetic about the ring but i guess it was because laurie was after amy but still held on to jo and amy was trying to make him understand he couldn’t have both march sisters

I think I'm finally getting why Amy was better for him than Jo. Jo admired him and flattered his ego - yes she challenged him, but she also wanted to be him, and encouraged his boyish, idle traits. Amy pushed him to be a better man. He didn't settle in his ways for her, he matured and became more responsible, until he deserved her.

I’m really thankful for this adaptation. When you read the books you know that Laurie and Jo are not meant to be. Amy made him better because demanded him to do better and he took the challenge. He realised how Amy was the best fit for him. They really loved each other.

Anyone notice how when Laurie kissed Amy he wasn’t wearing the ring Jo gave him anymore? I think that was a subtle sign that he had finally moved on
