How to SPEED up your MSI Laptop for FREE

Most gaming laptops will throttle their CPU. The reason we are most aware of is thermal throttling which we often overcome by undervolting.
There is also power limit throttling in which case the IMON tweak on MSI laptops can help.
In this video I show you have to do both in the advanced bios of an MSI laptop.
The laptop used was the GE77HX with an i7 12800HX and RTX 3070Ti.
I show the effect on performance using Cinebench R23 and Shadow of the tomb raider.

For undervolting, if the CPU and BIOS supports it you can use:
BIOS
XTU (Intel)
Throttlestop (Intel)

Could this be? A tech youtuber, actually doing tech reviews and giving actual technical advice?

Impossible!

Joking aside, great review as always stephen, very hard to find this stuff on other ''techtuber'' channels. And of course, according to some, undervolting is a meme, so you shouldn't bother with it and just let OEM's lock it out of the bios level and intel locking it down even more.

Thank you for showing the way. After some adjustments I learned from this video, laptop runs 10 degrees cooler now.

This is very useful, I was really tired of the fact that my i7 13700h while playing after a few minutes the tdp was reduced to 45w and 3200mhz~ obtaining a mediocre performance (worse than my old desktop ryzen 5600), after much research I found this solution and voila, now I get sustained performance, and I have combined it with TrottleStop, to adjust the multiplier according to my needs and so that it does not go over temperature. This is magnificent.

Oh my fucking god it actually worked! You, sir, are a legend. Thank you so much! I've been having problems with power limit throttling for years on my GE76 Raider and I've wasted so much time trying to solve them by setting large time values for PL states.

My CPU's TDP is just 45W, but ever since I beefed up the cooling, 45W has been way too limiting. Now I can run 90W and I'm still under 95 degrees Celsius. I was under 70 degrees with 45W which, for a high-powered notebook, might as well be 100 degrees below absolute zero.

Quick suggestion: If you want to raise the cpu power limit but don't want the cpu to utilize high wattage you can set pl1 and pl2 in the bios, for example my pc has a 45 watt limit on the cpu, I used an Imon slope of 50 and an Imon offset of 19999 and in the bios i set the pl1 and pl2 to 20 so that my cpu can pull more than 45 watts but can't go above 80 watts in order to reduce temp and lower power consumption, hope this helps

Is there a "IMON tweak" for laptop GPU?

I do know about vBIOS flashing, however that is hard to do if the right vBIOS doesn't exist.

Very good and detailed guide, it's so nice to see everything explained, I only have some minor doubts, like when you say maximum TDP of 128 Watt where do you see this value? Also can I change this value into another number? I wanted it to be lower but not as low as the power limit of like for example 45 Watt, which is the most common. Thanks in advance
