How to change your joystick tension spring - easy fightstick DIY!

If your joystick is getting loose and tired, it may only need a new spring to breathe some life back into it. Not all levers utilize springs, but lots of the common ones do (a Sanwa JLF is featured in this vid), and these springs are very easy to replace or simply swap for a different joystick feel. You can go for replacement standard tension force offerings, but there's also a new color-coded set to help you dial in the perfect feel for you.

Note: Once the e-clip is off, the joystick shaft will no longer be held in place and can fall out the top if you're not holding on to it. It's not a big deal if it comes out though. You'll just need to line up and re-insert.

I wonder if an old spring could degrade in strength over time and use. Sometimes I feel a brand new 2lb spring is so much more crisp than an old one.

I personally use the violet spring along with my otto v5 kit and shuriken pcb with custom omron switches.

Doesn't even feel like a Jlf anymore

So if a JLF feels loose after using it for a few months, would replacing the spring with a new one of the same one have it feeling like new? Or are there other parts that degrade that loosen it as well? I make my stick mad loose within like 3 months lmaoo. Liked and subbed

FYI if you’re used to the sanwa like I am … I was swapping over my 4lb spring from my sanwa custom stick that died while I wait on the new sanwa to be in stock. Onto a hori alpha for ps5. Be aware that the hori you basically have to remove. The top side pivot parts don’t stay in place like they do on the sanwa. So if you remove the spring and the stick moves at all or you take it out ? Two parts will fall inside the sticks housing and you will have to remove it anyway. Just fyi as I saw some people posting that they had a loose stick when doing this and it’s because they don’t realize those parts that control the top pivot are falling inside the housing when doing this.

What's the load value of a stock Sanwa JLF spring? This might be unusual but I want to make it even lighter

Any way you could discuss the differences in the springs? Personal preference?

Nice video! I have a short question: Are springs in general color coded, in various arcade stick types and models on the market? I would like to know the tension of the spring used in the Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro f.e.?

Hey do you have a way of mitigating against opposite directions getting activated on higher tension springs. I've got a 1.5x tension and I'm getting a lot of up directions when doing while rising moves in tekken
