So many of them calling themselves like "gel magic" or whatever, it even confuses me sometimes and I've been doing my nails both gel and regular for most of my life.

I really wish companies would not use the word “gel” to market regular lacquer. It’s so confusing for the average consumer!

the thing that *really* bugs me is when regular polish comes in an opaque bottle *and* has misleading "gel" language.. im looking at you essie gel couture top coat (even though its one of my favourite clear coats)

some brands even sell regular polish in an opaque bottle and call it gel, to even further try and dupe people into thinking its gel, makes me so mad.

Regular polish can also come in an opaque bottle. Gel can ONLY come in an opaque bottle. And Gel usually has instructions on the bottle that says to use an LED or UV lamp and how long to cure it for.

FWIW from my personal experience, those “gel-like” polishes took FOREVER to dry. I remember having so much trouble with them when I was a kid, I just refuse to use them anymore.

Another question I’ve heard is how to tell if a polish is opaque or not in the bottle. I don’t think you can! That’s why I look up a swatch to check 😂

So silly how they market regular nail polish like that. When I see Gel on reg polish, it just makes me think that it's trying to give more volume on the nail. Thus, maybe won't dry as quickly as I need it to.

Half of the Sally Hansen stuff either says "gel" as a marketing gimmick or is in an opaque bottle...somehow I don't think the Color Foil line is actually gel.

And these "clear bottle gels" don't really do any better than a regular polish. I've tried them. Just regular old nail polish, they've tried a new marketing gimmick on. And charge a bigger price for.

What bothers me is there are some companies, like olive and june where the polishes contain di-hema an ingredient that causes allergic reactions in people yet there is nothing to indicate the polish is gel - like. It’s a clear bottle and they don’t advertise it as gel. I suppose it’s not a true gel but it hardens with uv rays from sunlight.

Hey, just curious. How long is gel polish supposed to last for? I've had mine for a little under two weeks, and I've already had peeling and chipping :/ (it cost me $60 too!)

The regular “gel nail polish” uses soft gel to create a shinier effect. It’s not exactly like normal nail polish. Just different type of gel…just not UV gel.

assuming polish is your preferred based on your content, why do you prefer it over gel?

You may want to emphasize that the “light” you mention for drying gel polishes are actually a “UV, “or ultra violet” light.
