I had a large over bite.When I got braces, the dentist screwed in two mini screws(mini implants) into my upper gums, between the roots of my teeth. And then they hooked these rubber wires from the screws to the hooks on the brackets of my canines.
It was too painful for me to handle, I even cried for straight a month, because the screws were LITERALLY shooting pain into my gums.
But I'm genuinely happy from the results and the pain was worth it. My overbite is completely cured and my teeth is perfectly straight!

The most painful thing for me was the to long wire combined with a loose part in the back. The wire didn't poke into my cheek, it rubbed against my last tooth, rubbed and rubbed until it got through the outer layers and started hurting as hell.
Technician told me it's all in my head and I should start getting used to the pain since there are little kids who deal better then me, so I ignored it and used a ton of pain meds. When I went back to the dentist eventually, she saw a bit of "discolouration" und pocked the flubby stuff out of my tooth: the nerve died and puss came out. So they removed the tooth that was supposed to went a place to the front to close a gap I had.
All for nothing.
After that we had a bad relationship, they refused to take the braces out when I wanted to stop the treatment until they get the full amount they expected at the end.
The braces made it hard for me to clean and after the first hole formed, it all went south and I lived for years with braces holding on to rotting teeth. That was also very painful...

I’ve had braces for about 3 months, I need them for 2 years. From personal experiences, getting braces isn’t painful or annoying the entire process. It will only hurt and be sore for the first few days to a week, and when you go to change your wire, it might hurt for a few days. I can tell you this though, you WILL get used to braces overtime. But overall, braces aren’t that bad, it just might be annoying and weird having stuff in your mouth you’re not used to. Also had to get 4 premolars pulled because of crowding, they put 8 shots of dental anesthesia on me and I was sore for like 3 hours, it didn’t hurt tho, it was just a lot of pressure. I also have these things called Bite Blocks, they’re supposed to prevent you from biting ur brackets off because of overbite or something I think. I might also need rubber bands in the future to fix my bite.

1:28 I got 4 teeth removed because I didn't have enough space for my K9 teeth to grow in and I was numbed during the procedure but once the numbing wore off I could barley sleep on my side it was painful

I am a 58 yr old Englishman who had upper and lower metal braces fitted on 08/11/23 for the first time ever (as I have always had straight teeth) for a deep bite that has worsened over the last 5-10 years. Despite having a lower powerchain fitted from the very start, I have never had a moment of discomfort let alone pain from my actual teeth (cut up cheeks for the first couple of weeks was another matter!). My bite blocks were way too big to start with giving a massive 3-4mm of clearance above my bottom brackets. My ortho actually ground them down significantly at my first adjustment appt. and the. even further than that at my second monthly adj. appt. as if to acknowledge she’d made a massive mistake from the start by making them so large! Whilst I am a very determined person when I want to achieve something, I must admit I am thinking that the inability to enjoy food anymore (can‘t eat loads of foods / foods that are left will still break brackets / bite blocks STILL make chewing difficult / need to clean braces after every meal) is just not worth it bearing in mind my teeth were fairly straight to begin with (worse now 4 months into treatment!)…

I got 4 teeth removed like 3 or 2 weeks ago, it didn't hurt but the injections with the anesthesia do hurt a bit. Also- my mouth started bleeding and i couldn't do anything abt it bc i couldn't feel my mouth or move it thanks to the anesthesia.
I'm happy that the braces are doing their work pretty great, i mean- my mouth is pretty fcked up but it's looking better and i only got braces like last week-

i had four teeth removed for braces just a few weeks ago. they gave me a bunch of numbing cream and anaesthetic but it definitely is a bother for a while and it feels like your cheek is swollen but it looks perfectly normal. not exactly painful but definitely uncomfortable 😭😭

Here's some advice for different pain levels!

Mild:
If you have mild pain i would reccomend taking tylenol if your pain annoys you and if you want, you can also drink ice water wich helps the metal of the braces get "wrigly" and get softer so it wont tighten for about 1-2 minutes!


Im actually kinda feeling pain:

This pain, you should take ibeprophen or a stronger pain medicine it might help and you can also apply ice, drink ice water, or a popcicle or ice cream.

Im dying:

You probably need to do some expirimenting to see wich pain reliever works best for you! You should apply ice often if you can or eat cold foods as regularly as you can.

IM DEAD AND CRYING RN:

Ok! Well if you have the same pain level as me, i highly recommend you take ibeprophen or tylenol pills for adults. Please if you would love to have 3 minutes of zero pain, i really imply you buy a numbing oral gel it helps SO MUCH as for the medicine, its not gonna help that much. DO NOT apply ice. It doesnt help AT ALL but i recommend you try it because im not you and dont know if it will work for you!





Here are the "symptoms" if you have these pain levels!

Mild: not severe but really annoying and dont feel comfortable.

Im actually kinda feeling pain:
ok, it hurts but it is more annoying and irritates your mouth but its not making you hate yourself.

Im dying:
it actually hurts and you might want to cry or, you already have cried and you are deffinently regreting getting braces.

IM DEAD AND CRYING RN:

severe pain, cried A LOT and hate and i mean absolutely HATE the pain and probably had multiple breakdowns.


Man my hands are tired and my braces hurt a lot.

luckily the poke wire thingy necer happened to me because my dentist would always ensure to cut those off 😂 For me, the power chain one would be the most painful thing (more painful than having braces on for the first time) because it feels like your muscle is getting torn apart and this feeling lasted for 5 days which made me super angry and want to hit someone 😠

I just got braces yesterday, the pain is immeasurable, I cant even eat cereal it hurts that much to bite, not even painkillers take the pain away fully, its horrible

Hi, i have a question.

We have drsmile in The Netherlands and it is pretty big. But they don't use braces they use aligners to get your teeth straight. Is it possible that it works the same as braces with aligners? I would love to hear from you.
