Your "Select AF area selec. mode" choice is incongruent with your AF mode choice (Case 2).
Playback magnification is best set to "Actual size (from selected AF pt) as this is usually what one wants to inspect for critical focus.
In "Custom Controls" if the "Set" button is assigned to "Expo Comp" you can have exposure compensation in Manual mode, if Auto ISO is enabled.

can you do a vid on why you don't use back button focus?

At 8:35 of your video, you mentioned how you setup the lock button beneath the dial on the back as a way to lock the touchscreen. How do you do that? Thank you for the great video!

0:48 Those lens corrections are for JPG images only, they don't store in RAW files. So that's why you don't see an effect.

Absolute great advice. So many YouTube's share false info about everything photography. Thanks...
WHEN BACK BUTTON IS NOT USEFUL.
While pressing back button Auto Focus you can't select another focus point. Let's say you're shooting and decide to move the focus point on a bird that's just to right of center but you have set the focus at center af point. Now if you try to press the a.f. selection button its impossible.

But if you have the top main dial set as a.f. half press all you need do is hit the a.f. selection button and move your point to the desired new position.

Also you shouldnt use it for dedicated flight photography. Because you will be continuously focusing when shooting birds in flight, it will be more comfortable for your hands to half press the shutter button for focus and fully press to release the shutter, rather than having to hold two buttons at once.

I don't use back button focus. I prefer to use back buttons for AF-OFF, ONE SHOT/AI-SERVO, REGISTER RECALL FUNCTION. Also with pro bodies you can register your preferred af point selection so you can switch between say a single point to a focus point cluster. Just by holding or tapping a rear button. I know of no pro- photographer that uses back button as the preferred method. Occasionally using back button in rare instances when the action is slow they may use it. I know pro sports photographers who never adjust the settings in auto focus cases, they just use the defaults. And say they get great results. Speaking of A.F., below are some of my pro tips on auto focus point selections for budding photographers.

A.F.points for Birds in flight:
The rule of thumb for birds in flight is that the busier the background, the less focus points you use.

If you are a beginner or casual bird photographer, you should select the configuration which has a central focus with about eight surrounding AF points (roughly square-shaped) for birds in flight with busy backgrounds. As you get better, you may want to cut back on the number of surrounding points.

Conversely, if you have a plain background behind the action, like full blue sky, is a good time that you have all AF points selected. This maximises your chance of acquiring focus and is especially great with erratic moving birds. I've used this method shooting spiralling Eagles or fights in mid air as well.

Good review, but at this level we ought to be clear about everything. When shooting in RAW, the camera is capturing the raw data only, and so just as the AWB is irrelevant, so the picture style is also irrelevant. The camera will use the selected white balance and picture style choice in order to generate a picture on the camera's view screen, but this information is not transferred into Lightroom. Instead, Lightroom will generate a picture from the raw data based on the setting selections you have chosen in the software, irrespective of the camera picture style choice. Also, Lightroom will set as a starting point the white balance according to the AWB setting that the camera chose. Thanks for the review of the Mark IV.

I have seen many cameras which have a lock switch under, where it is written set. What does that switch do and what it means

Dan, thanks for making this video. I'm trying to follow along, but for some reason, on page number one. I lose you after shutter release without card. That's actually the last prompt on my camera. In the upper left-hand corner, I only have 3 numbers. It looks like you have six. If you could provide some knowledge, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

+Dan - 1:21 - have recently really been enjoying auto ISO lately for changing situations. 1:26 there's a new setting for AWB to specifically make whites white! you should set that to AWBw and try it out

On the 5D III you could change the Iso by pressing 'set' and turning the upper wheel as well

Do you if there is a way of preventing your light meter and shooting info turning off after 6 seconds in the view finder? Gets annoying if shooting in manual exposure mode.

Camera settings are all relative to the shooter. Learn your camera and what works for you.

Love the idea to customize the DOF button to switch between AI Servo and Single Shot. For some reason the switch isn't working for me. Is there a setting that might not allow this customization to work? The camera and lens are new.
