You are loosing some dB of signal strength by setting up the extender sideways, in a horizontal orientation. The antenna should be up and down and not left and right. As a ham radio operator I can tell you that antenna orientation matters.

Hey I have the Netgear AC 1200 WiFi extender. It worked for a while but then it dropped out. I may have to use an Ethernet cable to connect one end of the router and the other one to the back of the PC for my basement.

If you plug an Ethernet cable in it it’s going to get way better speed then being in repeater mode
