I am an Indian from Kerala. Million bows to my brothers and sisters from the north of India who despite trauma of centuries still hold on to Dharma. It's you people who are still democratically safeguarding India from regressive ideologies. It's just because of you people that we in the South of India have started dreaming of the rise of the Golden age of our civilization and its key religion/darshana: Vedanta. Saashtaang namaskaaram!🙏

There is old saying " a marwari will show ₹ 1 if he has ₹100 with him, a Gujarati will show ₹ 1 if he has ₹ 10, a Punjabi will Show ₹ 10 if he has ₹ 1.

I am from South India. Born, bred here, never had a chance to understand this.
My daughter got a seat in Airforce school through general category, by sheer luck. I met the principal who was from Delhi. She asked me to introduce a good real estate agent who could help her get a house to buy.
I was visibly surprised when she told me that she wanted to settle here. She then explained to me that she liked the simple ways of South Indians and that language had never been a barrier for her here. I felt happy on hearing this.
Now I understand this completely. ❤

As a Tamil, I fully agree. The prosperity of the South initially was because of the sacrifices by the North people. The barbarians never truly reached South and were mostly tackled in North itself. 🙏🙏🙏

This is absolutely right, north Indians spend more money on the showoff items. Specially Punjabi's in Delhi NCR. 😀 My punjabi friend don't have car parking but still bought 50 Lakh BMW and parking it in the streets of Patel Nagar. 😄

I feel north Indians are more showoff, but more aggressive and kind. South Indians are fewer showoffs, and more conservative and private people.I am from Goan background I remember my dad still using kinetic honda till 2016 and he was already AGM in SBI lol. But I love the cheerfulness of North Indians.

I am a Bengali who lived in Punjab for 27 years and now in South India.
The level of show off is extremely high in Punjab, Haryana, New Delhi..
I know many people who consider eating with hands as dehati. Also, I have seen unemployed people having iphones, cars, in debt. Most of all, I see many Punjabis in a lot of stress that if they can't go to Canada or increase their standard of living, their life will be difficult.
I don't say Bengal or South is free from it, show off in one way or other is everywhere.. but the show off in North will definitely exhaust u if u don't earn a lot or don't belong to rich class...

Well said Sir. I have observed this in my own life. I have stayed in Dehradun for my studies and am currently staying in Chennai for my Job . People in the North are more towards physical strength viz. People are into joining the Army more and show off culture buying iPhone and Cars even if it's on EMI whereas people in the South are more towards saving culture and they are spending a lot on Education and Savings like Gold(proof by data). They don't like to show off and I could see even a person earning so much is so humble . We should learn from both sides and have balance in our life.

Lol, so true. I've been born brought up in Chennai where people are exact opposite of show offs and I used to wonder why all my relatives based in delhi are such huge show offs. Every school vacation I am in Delhi, my relatives prove how ultra show off they're omg.

My neighbour in chennai an ISI and IIMA alumni, lives like a normal regular person and very humble in behavioral conduct, but a simple small restaurant owner relative in delhi acts like he owns the world.

More than ancient reasons, show off is influenced by Bollywood. Real rich are mostly humble and those who pretend to be rich are the ones who shows off much. 😀😀

I live in Gujarat but I am a Malayali. And sadly in recent times, some Malayali's are getting influenced by the show-off culture as can be seen in weddings. And there are many who cannot afford it yet because their child's desires, they give in for their happiness. I think people need to learn this valuable lesson that show-off won't earn us anything, rather its just a waste of money that could be utilized for better purposes in life.

I am from Assam and lived in Delhi for total of 10+ years and In Bombay and South total of 6+ years!! You are 100% correct. In Delhi, one of my very first introduction to with people in Delhi went like - : " Hello, I am Rajiv, I am a Director in a big company and I live in Vasant Vihar". or " I came on my BMW". driver is waiting outside

Yes....I agree with during my academic days ( 80's to 88) I had seen many friends of me used to say their conservative culture, dowry demand ranges according to status of bride groom.... moreover I have noticed during my student life and in service, North Indian are always pompous, talks loudly & aggressive behaviour either in bus, train travel or in South Indian or even the people of NE states are more of crimes are reported either in UP, Delhi, Bihar, MP, truly speaking average North Indian are a bit rude
