ZZ Top has written some very iconic songs. When I went to learn a few of them by looking up 'top zz top songs,' I kept going 'oh! that's what THAT song is called." The king of Riff's... the Reverend, Billy Gibbons.

His 1957 Gibson Goldtop was custom pinstriped. Gibson Custom made 300 replicas of his guitar. 150 were aged (50 of which were also signed) and 150 were VOS

Quickly becoming my favorite YouTube channel (I'm a Les Paul guy, as my profile photo suggests!).

I have a Gibbons Custom Shop VOS and love it. The pinstriping is done by Rick Harris (he has a website, do a search) for Gibson, he does cycles, trucks cars etc too. He is the guy that hand pinstriped the semi hollow all maple N-225 Gibson had. You can see his initials on it in pictures. He told me how many of the N-225 he did for Gibson but I forget, his website has photos of them as well as Gibbons guitars. He also did Leon Russell's white piano striping and has pictures there.

He's also on Facebook .... nice friendly fellow. He does custom work if you're willing to mail him a guitar too. I had him do one of my Les Pauls.

This being said Gibbons does do some of his own guitars and is good at it. I'm guessing he does his hot rods too.

Trogly, at 7:40 you absolutely nailed that sound! The tone was oozing all over the place :)

I would very much like to rock this beauty ! The aging looks authentic and the pinstripe sets it off a treat. I wasn't aware the R7 had a fat neck until now, as people always seem to refer to the '58 Bursts as baseball bats. My favourite gold top, (visually as I haven't played one) is the second version with the wrap tail & soap bars. This channel always gives me GAS 👍😊🎸

Another side note for the Gibson Custom Shop VOS is that the guitar neck is a direct scanned copy carve of Gibbons 57. I love playing it, it feels great and the Seymour Duncan PEARLY GATES pickups are nice sounding.

Beautiful gold top. It nice how it looks played but not abused.

His first guitar ever a Melody Maker, that his father had pinstriped for him so the pinstripes are a nostalgia thing

I have the VOS Spec Custom Shop Signature one. Great guitar and full of tone with the Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pickups. The neck on it was a direct copy from Billy Gibbons’ guitar. The neck is fat but my R8 from 2016 is actually fatter.

Theres a video here on youtube of Billy pin-striping a fans gold top and i’ve gotta say, he is just as smooth with a sharpie as he is with a pick.

Billy's Les Paul reads "Gibbons" on the headstock. They should have incorporated that haha.

Whats up trogley the pin stripes are a 50s60s hot rod style made famous by von dutch an ed roth etc so billy gibbons is a hot rod collector and his first guitar whem he was a kid a lp jr or melody maker was pin striped like that from a freind of his fathers at a body shop so my guess is billy f just put some hotrod touches on his lp

Love the guitar and the pinstriping is ok too, but I hate artificial relic guitars. I'd rock it!

Ive seen him playing a nice SG with the pinstripe treatment. I think they look great but boy do you need a steady hand to paint like that. You could not do it with a hangover or if you had the booze shakes. Lol. Have a sound weekend Trog. ;)

Love the sounds of it - ive never much cared for the Gold tops though. The color I refer to. Gold just aint my thaang lol. You mentioned the neck so Im gonna go off topic here, as usual lol, and ask you a question - Oh Austin can I make a suggestion for you and your channel? Add a spot where where people can just ask you a direct question, like a forum type button? Anyway, I have an Epiphone Lee Malia Les Paul, had no idea who he was just loved the guitar lol. Anyway - this thing is billed as having a "chunky" neck, They use the "base ball bat" analogy, its got a '59 style C- shape - I love this neck! I don't have large hands but this neck is fantastic. I have two other Les Pauls that have much larger necks yet they claim they use the 60's slim style - so my question is, was there a difference in the C- shape '59 style than say the usual "Base ball bat" styles? If you played this neck you would know what I mean about it seeming to be slimmer. Its not as slim as say a shredder type but certainly it feels more slim that then the 60 slim style, is it the c shape?
