Great video, you can also use an inductance meter on the bigger motor windings and a milliohm meter as they read very low resistance and look like they are short circuit on a standard multimeter.
Also good rule to make for yourself is to NEVER rest tools or fixings inside the terminal box on the bigger motors. It will help you sleep at night when you can’t find that spanner you were sure you had on the job last week.

Great video. Years ago I had to connect a pump for a heating engineer, who told me the failed pump had just stopped working. He admitted he hadn’t tested the failed pump or any knowledge of 3 phase wiring, hence why I was there. He also had purchased a new contractor and overload. And here is where I failed - I trusted he had connected the new pump as the same as the failed one, because I asked him if he made sure the links were the same on the new unit (star delta). I then changed the contractor and turned it on. BANG. He had wired the links for delta. Never again.

Top drawer instructional on motors pal. The g ohms chart at 20:45 makes things so much easier to understand. As others on here have mentioned. Fast becoming the go to channel on motor/process controls. Bangin wee video👌

thanks, didn't have a clue about giga ohms before now. using test results to see deterioration and anticipate a replacement motor was really interesting.

Love the comment at 4:30… Reminds me of when I was sent out to replace a large motor someone diagnosed as bad, we had a new motor shipped in, and need a lift… First thing I do is double check the motor, everything tests fine, I wonder over to the electrical control box and there had been an arc flash across the fuse block (come to find out, they had been blowing fuses constantly). Felt bad making the prior guy seem like an idiot, but I didn’t really want to change that motor and glad I checked.

I used to think I was cool with my tera-ohms tester until someone pointed out I don’t need to measure tera-ohms, just look and see if the two cables are on opposite sides of the earth

P.S. another brilliant video. This three phase stuff is gold and hard to find on YT. More please.

Great Video, There is alot of companies here in USA that do NOT go the extra mile and do this exact test, Lack of the info like u just showed leaves you hanging with what exactly failed or is failing. Excellent discriptive video.

This has been absolutely brilliant mate! You break it down so well easy to follow! And as a Building services engineer dealing with motors it’s really helpful! Thank u as most of the time we are just asked to swap them out and the company pays thousands! Without even doing theses tests! 😅

God I wish I’d had this as a reference last month 😂😂 thrown on a job to diagnose a fault on a baby motor haven’t touched them in a long time…. This would have clarified a lot 😅 thanks
