As fucked up as this is Otto could read the room. Nobody wanted Daemon anywhere near the iron throne so yes Rhaenyra was a temporary solution. If however she was to be a permanent one Viserys shouldn’t have remarried as there was a chance that whomever he did marry may produce a son. Don’t hate the player. What always pissed me off about Alicent was how fucking blind and dense and blinded by that green becon jealousy she was, Rhaenyra is plenty frustrating and stupid enough as it was. And don't think that Aenys II- ahem Vizzy T gets a pass here, jackoff actively put his daughter AND those other three erh four whatever their names are in danger by keeping Otto and his minions at court and poisoning the well no pun intended, he knew Otto was a threat and refused to actually do anything about it after Lyonel died. But it was Alicent who pitted her children against Rhaenyra all but ensuring there would be conflict. And as for the whole there would be war and unrest if Aegon was not King... Alicent dear... how would daddy know that unless he actively intends to wage war? The Arryns were her cousins and the Starks would sooner not break an oath. Even if you claim ignorance to everything else THAT is one thing you can't say you didn't know. Let's be clear it was Otto who tore the realm apart and was posing the most danger to Alicent's children not Rhaenyra. He goes on about how Alicent's children are a threat to Rhaenyra and how she would have no choice but to kill them or have them killed... yet Alicent fails to see that the reverse is true. I don't think she truly grasped how much Otto played her like a fiddle until the green council.

And all of it was for nothing. If they go the book route. (Spoilers) The Hightower/Targaryen line died out, making this whole power grab a waste of time and about as impactful as the long night, on top of that the dragons died out, and the sons of Rhaenyra and Daemon (the two people Otto did everything in his power to make sure never sit the throne) sat the throne anyway. Meager and pathetic as their line became in later years, it was their bloodline to survive to Dany, Jon, and possibly book FAegon.
