You know Sauron could have come up with a plausible lie. He could of told Galadriel that he came from a illegitimate line of the old royal family. One that could not inherit the throne until the legitimate line was extinct.

Revealing Halbrand as Sauron was a dopey story move. Sauron is a Maiar, one of the original witnesses of Eru Ilúvatar's creation of Eä, right hand of Morgoth himself, a captain of evil higher than the Balrogs. Showing him as a hunky dude on a raft who ended up looking for blacksmith work in Númenor just completely misses the scale of the character. Tolkien never showed Sauron directly during LOTR, because it was better to leave him an unimaginable power beyond human comprehension. "Let's trick Galadriel into thinking he's a good guy" was such a dumb direction to take with him.

Missed opportunity to have Sauron and Galadriel be a power couple. if you are going to go all in on fanfic, you should really go for it.

I wish they would have just stuck to the lore. Galadriel was always suspicious of Sauron in his disguise as "Annatar, the Lord of Gifts" but Celebrimbor let him into Eregion because of his great skill. Sauron should have been portrayed as a Maia claiming to be from Valinor or who remained in Middle Earth after the War of Wrath, and the Elves debate who he really is and what his intentions are. The Elves of Middle Earth don't really have a two way communication link with Valinor at this time. Galadriel never trusts Annatar but there is never enough evidence to show that he is Sauron until it is too late.
