Love the point on patiently building leverage in the negotiation process. Why shoot the ball from other side of the court when there is still time on the clock... Thank you & Subscribed 😊

You Andy should be in charge of all hiring processes for all companies. I mean, people at companies make so silly questions and dont know how to run hiring processes. They go thru that dumb script that everybody does but dont take time or dont make questions related to how this person will perform.
I remember talking to hr people and they handed me the useless set of questions (weaknesses, how you see in 5 years, bla bla). I threw it out and told them, just watch.
I needed a procurement manager so in my company the main thing is not yield to pressure that other departmets give you (they try to force you to do what they want).
So I took the candidate, we met in a really small room. We were seated and all three touching kness literally. I told him " I like you. I thing you might me the right person but in order to consider you for the position you have to take a lower salary". All silence. The guy very respectul told me that he was glad to listen that but he tought that taking a paycut wasnt right for him and he gave me the reasons why.
I hired him because he was polite, gave his points and most important did not yield to pressue.
I looked to the hr person and told him: "go and sit for 3 weeks and listen to Andrew Lacitiva and take the boot camp course. It will worth every penny"

wow andrew you must have some very understanding interviewers. i have always dealt with regards to offers is "here is the offer accept in 2 days or its null and void". and in between that time you will be lucky if they email you back. maybe I'm too young at this time. this is for corporate jobs not odd jobs. if i danced around so much with conditions i would lose out on opportunity.

I got a link for this one in my email, Andy. So something about what you said in that email made me have to click.

So glad I did, this is great feedback and something I'm really shabby at. I just get into a chit chatty kind of a conversation and just start saying too much.

To self: Stop that!

You should discuss panel interviews. I recently had an 3 hour interview with a panel of 6, for a Security Manager Position. The interview went really well, I thought. Most of the discussion was one sided, myself of course. It seemed very polite and respectful, they laughed at my jokes and I laughed at theirs. They asked off script questions. 2 Operations Manager, 2 Department heads, the HR Generalist and the GM. I couldn't shake the feeling that The HR lady hated me. In my industry reading people, especially their body language saves lives. So it seemed she was very uncomfortable and shifty in her seat, sighed a lot, had a tone to her voice, she asked several off topic follow up questions, she was 2 minutes late to the show, and at the end told the GM that she had more question but was way to busy to ask. She was appalled that I had questions for everyone at the end. But, she still smiled at the end and shook my hand. But, that could just be muscle memory. lol

Great video! I have a question... I’m a big believer in every conversation counts.. I would love some pointers on what to say to the CEO in the coffee room when he asks how you are going (job wise) and you have got a billion ideas but your at Officer level, what’s appropriate?

I didn't get it. Does one bring up things they can live with that aren't ideal through the process, so that their big ask at the end will be accommodated or should you just bring up all your asks after the offer when your value is the highest?

Hey Andy, thanks so much for all the awesome content. Any tips for negotiating salary offers during the pandemic? I want to be compensated fairly, but I want to be considerate of companies' economic circumstances, too. Much appreciated! Take care.

Some positions are not remote by nature so I dont think its a good idea to hold off and waste their time if they cannot offer it.

Hey Andy, can you make a video about work assignments/ assessments during the interview process? Recently I interviewed for a job at a startup (twice) that has required a skills test and a sample work assignment. I would like to know your opinion about these kinds of tasks and how job seekers should approach them.

Listening to this I realized, my last 2 jobs, they just gave the salary I asked and it was high for me. But Now I realized, I had far larger salary to gain and I foolishly missed out

???: The recruiter asked my range (I was forced to put a number in the app so idk why she asked) and i said i need to know more about the job and i would like to explore other benefits besides salary such as prof development, insurance, bonuses, etc. Was I wrong to mention these other potential benefits?

I am aware that's what i am saying shouldn't be said but what if you are having interviews since years without finalizing any of them and you are desperate to find a job or a finally permanent position after about 10 years of rooming around for few months contract. I am there is plenty out there of people that needs to work at any costs and willing to bend. So why they should accept to pay you what you ask. Especially now with automation the work is dehumanized so taking the risk can be too much. What to do under those circumstances? Thanks for answering
