My thought is that the Hamwi method is more used in the United States because it's the higher figure for all the formulas, or at last the four standard ones from the sixties and eighties. Therefore it's easier to get to. My thinking is also that there would be merit to taking a list of the weights for all the methods, or at least the four standard ones, and getting an average of them. That way if you assume imperfections in all of them, you'd minimize that. For instance, I'm right inbetween all of the figures for 71" at 165 lbs. at this point which is also my high school weight from 1982. So the average is one pound less at 164 lbs. Right now my idea is to give myself a bit of a buffer zone a little lower, over 160 and under 165.

As a Respiratory Therapy student we can use IBW for calculating Tidal Volumes as the lungs dont change with weight.
