George Lucas thought KOTOR, the Sith Wars, Tales of the Jedi and more were BS, and that they weren't what happened compared to his version of the Ancient Sith. Let's talk about it!

I'm less concerned with "were there really multiple Sith Lords 4000 years ago" and more with "how are they still using the same technology 4000 years later and no one has managed to invent a holoprojector that doesn't have shitty audio and constant static noise in the image".

The thing with the sith becoming too powerful and killing each other is exactly the reason that Darth Bane started the rule of two anyway.

Lucas: There was no war between Jedi and Sith, Kotor is bs
Kotor: We have plenty of goth Twi'Lek Sith ladies
Lucas: Actually, I think Kotor is a great fulfillment of my vision

Old Republic is 95% of why I like star wars in the first place.

Fun fact: George Lucas personally gave permission to everything what was related to his Star Wars franchise when he was the exclusive owner.

This quote definitely sounds like it was taken out of context, as everyone here points out this contradicts virtually everything from this era, all of it approved by Lucas before he sold his company. I think what Lucas actually means is "If you think the Sith lost control of the galaxy because they lost a war, you're wrong. They were defeated from within because of selfish in-fighting, allowing the Jedi and their selfless philosophy to take over. And that's why the Sith in the movies follow the rule of two." Everything I know about this era tells me that there were multiple Jedi/Sith wars and that the rule of two was created later after they defeated themselves from within. But I could be wrong, there are lots of fans who know the lore extremely well.

This is part of the reason to take what he says with a grain of salt. He changes his mind a lot, and typically only says things that apply to his films anyway. In this case he just disagreed with what the EU did with ancient Jedi/Sith and so what? No one should let this stop them from enjoying KOTOR or Tales of the Jedi or anything like that.

And yes I still think Lucas is extremely talented and I'm not hating on him.

Funny that he thinks that. KOTOR and particularly KOTOR II is the best expression of Star Wars I've ever experienced.

I mean seeing a bunch of sith try to kill each other would be pretty cool

With all due respect to George KOTOR sounds way more interesting that what he came up with.

GL's actions speak louder than his words. He signed off on all of the EU and put his name on it assuring the fans laying out their money that it was Star Wars. What he thought personally doesn't count. If he truly didn't want the KOTOR to be a part of the Star Wars history, he shouldn't have signed off on it nor allow the deep lore that developed around it, which he also signed off on before publishing. My personal feeling is that GL had a love/hate relationship with the fans and would say things occasionally out of spite. There's enough documentation available showing that he was aware of most everything happening with Star Wars and when the creators came up with something he really didn't want, he'd veto it. So if something got produced, it was too late for him to naysay it as he had already signed off on it!

But when he says that, that raises the question: how do the Sith want revenge against the Jedi when the Sith destroyed themselves only and there was no war between Jedi and Sith? That doesn't add up, George. That was what you wrote.

"At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have our revenge."
And, you know, Revenge of the Sith?

Were the Sith such pathetic screwups that they just blamed the Jedi for their own collapse?

I’ve always said there really is three star wars continuities.

* Canon (Everything Disney plus all movies and the Clone Wars series)

* Legends (Everything EU plus original and Prequel films but NOT TCW as it was clear George and Dave did not take Legends material into account when making the show)

* George Lucas Canon (Six movies, Story drafts for his sequels, TCW as it was initially planned through 8 seasons and Ahsoka not outliving Vader, also whatever lore he contributed to from the eu)

Oh crap.. well now I have to cast some shade on the man himself.. because KOTOR 1 and 2 is what got me into starwars. The lore and stories in kotor is the best part of starwars to me

I personally always thought George's "Rule of Two" did not make much sense. Generations of greedy, evil Sith working in secret so some future Sith, in this case, Palpatine can rise to power. That actually seems pretty noble to me. Also if there are only two, and apprentices are killing their masters, lots of knowledge is going to be lost, because no master is going to teach their apprentice everything just to be killed by that knowledge. If they did, that also seems pretty self-sacrificing of the Sith Lords.

The many ancient wars between the Sith and Jedi were amazing!! This is one of those rare times where I have to disagree with George 🤷🏻‍♂️

George isn’t in charge anymore. When he was, he said there was a Jedi/Sith war a thousand years prior.

The main thing that always bugged me was the generally identical level of technology. Would’ve been awesome to see something more on the medieval side, like a leap in affluence for one type of technology, but everything else struggles to keep up and comparatively looks and feels a bit spartan.

"Once more, the Sith will rule the galaxy. And, we shall have peace." This is what Lucas' actually wrote.
