Something similar happened to me, I dated her for 4yrs and she broke up with me. I later found out supposedly because her friends told her she needed to live a little and date other guys to really know if I was the right guy. Since we had started dating when we were 18. When she broke up with me it completely broke me. Some months passed by and I started to go out with friends and quickly found out I had a lot of options. Started dating again and bam! Like she knew she calls out of nowhere to meet. We met up she tried to get back together but I didn’t feel the same way towards her anymore. She explained why she did what she did but her explanation to me just solidified that she wasn’t the right person for me. Years passed by and she called me randomly at night to tell me she was getting married. She said “I just want to know if there’s a chance of us getting back together I will call the engagement I said no, I told her to be happy and enjoy her new life. I changed my number but that was the Last I heard of her.

This scene showed the movie had a brain and a conscience. Then the movie proceeds to throw both out the window when it brings back Josh later just to make him a cheating clown to validate Alice's thoughtless, egotistical, impulsive decisions.

when i was younger i made the mistake of taking a girl back multiple times after she “needed a break” or had to “find herself”…when none of those guys wanted to commit to her she came crawling back to me. now i am an older wiser man with self respect.
