This was a very helpful tutorial. Thank you so much. I have a cake winder. The cheaper ones on amazon I like better than the $30 Loops and Thread brand. The $13 was better as it winded the yarn in better cakes for some reason. Nice to see you Claire. 😊☀️

Great demo Clare, thank you. I haven't seen a swift like that before, I have a wooden umbrella type and I use a Jumbo 10oz Ball Winder which has 2 yarn guides. I do have the smaller one too and use that to cake up the little bits and pieces. Horror stories, omgosh, too many to count. Getting expensive yarn caught in the mechanism and having to basically disassemble everything to get it out... lost about a metre of the yarn that way, also, try to keep long hair and fingers out of the way lol... owwwwies!

Greatest and most informative tutorial I’ve found on ball winders.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 My concern was if the yarn gets stretched- how long one can store a wound ball, if the ball winder winds so tightly that it would stretch the yarn. I have not managed to make a proper ball cake using my ashford skeiner and Lykke ball winder. So you don’t need to thread it through the skeinwinder metal loop? How far away is your winder? Is this important? Does it need to be lined up evenly?
