It has been non stop over here with my laundry room makeover and I cannot wait to reveal the entire space to you. Unfortunately that is not until August but I can share some of the DIY’s I’m implementing into the space. Today I’m going to show you how I created these gorgeous jumbo DIY floating shelves. I hope you love them as much as I do! Remember that if you want to customize them for your space, change the measurements, switch up the stain color or paint! Get creative! Love you guys, stay rad xx.

Now that's how to make a DIY video! Precise and to the point with fantastic and clever ideas on how to make the shelves. My wife has been wanting me to make floating shelves for her for a long time and now I know how to. Thanks so much for posting this video. 4:53

Love your projects! :) A tip for hanging these types of shelves (or cabinets) in the future is to temporarily screw in a couple of pieces of wood to the wall as "ledges", then you can sit the back of your heavier shelf (or cabinet) on it while you attach it to the wall. You'll have one or two screw holes to fill after, but it makes it a lot easier for one person to hang stuff.

From one woman show to another, that was beast! 100% impressive and inspiring. I love it. Nice work.

They do really look like they're just one piece! I'm coming from the laundry reno video and I thought they were built in a completely different way! They look great!

How much weight can you put on these? The thin wood looks like a heavy item would fall through and break the wood if placed where it doesn’t have a board under it to support it.

Good job. It's nice to see women taking a hands on approach to home improvements. If I were a female I would want to know how to create and fix things instead of relying on someone.

If I have a daughter I will teach her the importance of self reliance. I have a 2 1/2 year son but as a parent both men and women should pass on their skills to their offspring. I plan on teaching my son and other child if i have one how to cook also as I am in the culinary industry. Knowing how to cook, fix household issues and some basic auto mechanics are a must.

Sorry for the rant.

I did not think of using 1/4” to do this at all. Brilliant!

Using your drill as a hammer/mallet... Cool idea! Loved the shelves, and video. Thanks :)

Great work! As someone else mentioned, try using temp ledges to help the weight or use the washing machine with some props to hold up the bottom shelf install, then use the bottom shelf with props to install the higher shelf after.

Cheers, have built the same in an alcove beside the fire, used smaller timber and swapped the ply for MDF worked a treat

This is so far my favourite DIY tutorial. I could binge on these (currently doing that now 🙃) so much more fun than buying the floating shelves as they are. Seems a lot more cost efficient and you get thicker shelves doing it yourself 👏🏼

Listen I am a very creative person and I have been laying in my walk in closet first decorating it in my head secondly trying to find the most simple way of adding shelves for my mini shoes I was about to go the long way until I seen this video This is truly creatively simplified if I can give it a hundred thumbs-up I would

You are the wind beneath my DIY wings for what a beginner (such as myself) would consider 'a big project.' I have stood in front of my washer & dryer countless times wishing that I had more shelving than the little shelf that I do have. You even dread asking what it may cost to pay someone else to do it for you. I have done lots of these projects - in my head, with a good imagination. Watching you do it makes me certain that I can do it too. It's an answer to my prayer. Thanks much for sharing!!

Very impressive that you were able to put up a 10' shelf brace by yourself. It is encouraging to see that even something that long can be done by yourself. It doesn't hurt that you worked in the shot at 2:05. :-)

I want to do this in my bedroom closet! I hope they turn out as beautiful as yours did!

Brilliant.. I have seen several videos on floating shelves, all of them (you are an exception) made the casing of the shelf so heavy with complicated miter joints etc. Your idea of providing thin skin on all sides of the shelf is simply out of box Thanks for sharing.

You are amazing I'm a mechanical contractor I'm very inspired by this video my shelves in the walk in closet fell down from all the weight. I have two daughters I always like to see girls do stuff like this on their own

Use thicker plywood for the tops folks.

Excellent work Rachel, I've been looking for a contractor that builds these shelves for me, and they look at me like i'm an alien. Great execution. watching you build your own, makes me want to try my own. Thanks.
