Interesting video! Nice that you noticed American locomotives as well! It is said that a PRR Class T1 reached somewhere around 130 or 140nph while in service, and the PRR S1 was claimed to go up to 157mph! There's a company called the T1 trust to build another PRR T1 to beat Mallard's speed record.

20/8 22 Is there a vid' that describes the importance of using the correct type of fuel when firing steam loco's ? Weren't some US loco's wood burners ? UK's 100 year old Flying Scotsman suffered recently from use of incorrect imported coal.

DR 18 201 the first German pacific? The last one maybe, but plenty of German pacifics preceded it.
The Bavarian S 3/6 was the first and would later get numbers starting with 18 which may cause the confusion (I still don't understand the German numbering at all).

You can quibble all you like about what 'may' of gone faster than Mallard under different circumstances but you can't deny nothing came close for elegance.

Malard set the record by going down hill and it was also damaged a bit b the attempt, so thats why for me the br05 is the fastes steam loco :)
