I helped a family friend who was in end stage pancreatic cancer for a few weeks.
She wanted to do the dishes at 3 a.m. with me. She just wanted things to feel normal and not heavy.
We washed the dishes and just talked. I sat in bed with her and rubbed her back. Just let her put her head on my shoulder and be comforted. She asked me to keep an eye out over her daughter and I promised I would. She went home with her youngest daughter and passed about a week later, peacefully, in her own home. I miss her a lot.

I totally agree!
My dad had cancer. Had been dealing with it for a few years. Was in a nursing home for the last 3 weeks of his life. My aunt Rosie, (dad's sister) worked at that same home. All he wanted was a smoke and a shot of Kessler. She brought it for him. It's not going to do any more damage than what's already done.
Yes! Let them enjoy the last few moments of life!

"No" is NEVER the right answer. I hope that if my turn in hospice ever comes, I have an AMAZING human and exceptional nurse like Penny ❤

My grandma was the alcohol distribution lady at a nursing home in the UK for years. She loved it.

It doesn’t make sense to deny anything to a dying person.

My dear friend, Christopher, dying of AIDS related infections, asked for a cig and a shot of single malt at the end. We toasted to him and the amazing way he touched all who knew him.

I remember a patient that all he wanted was icecream. His son objected because of his history of high cholesterol. Once I explained he would die before he ever had any adverse repercussions from bad cholesterol everything changed. He wasn’t in hospice but was so elderly that we would be lucky to get one more year. His son did a complete turnaround and enjoyed going hunting for all the fancy icecream he could find. He adored his father, he was always well intentioned, he just needed to understand his father’s needs changed. I loved seeing father and son eating icecream and telling stories. I loved how excited the son was to bring a different icecream everyday 😊

Those Dental sponges are great for giving a patient a taste of coffee or tea or wine or whiskey it's just enough to make them happy

Both my maternal grandparents had dementia. They were in the same care home together. My grandma had more advanced dementia than my grandpa but they lived there together so the staff built up such a special relationship with my grandpa.

Most of their residents have quite advanced dementia when they get a spot in the home but they really got to know my grandpa.
My grandma passed away in 2019, my grandpa ended up passing in 2021.

The staff was amazing. They would sit with him after their shift and have a coffee with them, or have a beer together. They would spend their own hard earned money (being a carer doesn’t pay that much) to bring my grandpa some fresh herring. “Because he loves it so much.”

Those people were truly special, I’m tearing up just thinking of it. My grandpa passing also hit them really hard. I still remember when one of them came to say his goodbyes before he passed.

I took care of a woman who was a paraplegic in the last couple months of her life. We went out to the club for Christmas Eve and we had a great time drinking and dancing.( Paraplegics dance in their motorized chairs!) I'm glad that I was there with her because she passed away 2days later. Miss you Stacey ❤️

Drink the whole bottle, if a hospice patient requests it..both my parent's lost 2 cancer..and their last few requests given without hesitation ♡...nothing extreme requested..just anything for an extra moment of (their) happiness, provided :) ♡♡

There was a lady over 100 in a nursing home I worked at. Every afternoon she had a gin and tonic, then took a big nap :)

Thank you to all the hospice nurses out there. I don’t have the words to express my gratitude for the care you give to those during their end of life.

The doctors at our Hospice included their alcohol of choice on their medication administration record and it was written “as needed” It was awesome to see the patients get to enjoy a drink in their last 6 months of life. 🙏🏽

My Dad was always afraid of addiction. He had massive pain everyday the last years of his life. My mother was afraid to give him pain relief afraid he would be addicted. I explained to her that she gave him every pill he took. He can’t go anywhere unless we take him. He only has a few years left. Let him be comfortable. ❤❤❤
