Hey Adam and Abby. as a 15 year cummins tech. Your engine temp is correct. The 6.7 cummins runs normally a 185 degree thermostat and the Temps of the truck will run between 200 -212. When the fan comes on at 212 it will come back down to 200. This is perfectly normal. Safe travels and have a great.

I love roadtrips! Long roadtrips on America's backdoor highways are the best, especially when you go to those little towns with roadside shops and restaurants that aren't "touristy". Some of my favorite memories as a kid are riding in the car through the Smokey Mountains from Cleveland OH to Traveler's Rest SC to visit my Stepdad's family - stopping at all the little roadside places in the mountains and taking in the people, sights and smells of the country side is so much more interesting than shooting down I-71 and stopping at every T/A truckstop.

FYI - engines, both gasoline and diesel, are designed with your standard outside (ambient) temperature in mind. If the cooling system is working, and it looks like you've got plenty of clearance for air flow to that big radiator, you should be fine.

I traveled US 45 in eastern MS a few years ago. Not too bad a road.
Enjoy your adventure & watch those pot holes on the roads ahead.

What a feeling of freedom it is to start out on a big vacation. I'm just sitting here in NH but can feel the relaxation from your video. Thanks...

You should create a database of recommended campsites and pit stop locations, similar to what restaurant critics do for restaurants.

I did the 8, 000 round trip to the Golden Gate Bridge. Southern route there, northern route back…It was the trip of a lifetime. It took 3 weeks and we stopped everywhere and saw everything…You have no idea how big the USA is until you do something like that…

That digital readout for the coolant temperature is a nice feature. Both of my trucks are old and just have the guess at the temperature needle reading. Safe travels and I hope you both enjoy your adventures on the road.

Adam your exactly right that thermostat and fan Is doing it job I drove a big truck for 33 years hauling coal in the mountains of Va. Ky. and wv. and when you pull a big hill the temp does just like you say if it don't come back down then it's time to pull over. That monkey hauler looks great I love the color of it

Yes, the outside temp has a little to do with it. Ultimately it comes down to how much work the fans have to do to dump the heat. (and how long it takes to warm up in the cold... my honda civic "race car" won't idle at all until it's warmed up -- 160+; since it's pure water, at 200 you need to start worrying.) In my NV2500 and Winne, you can hear when the high speed fans cut in. The van was designed to sit at idle for extended periods. The local car club's bus (Ford Triton V10) can sit in a field running for hours without issue.

Omg, there is so much room between that bike and your grill. As usual Adam, your quite prepared, but the self appointed safety board cant shut up and let a guy do a thing. Have fun.
