my class didn't do a baby powder barre, we did chalk drawings on the floor that we had to erase with our toes (it was pink and we only wore leather shoes so we kept our shoes on)

In gymnastics we usually add chalk to the floor ie beam when we do turns like a wolf turn

Kicking up baby powder dust... in an enclosed space (as far as I can see)... where people are working out and heavily breathing... oof!
Baby powder is carcinogenic (can cause cancer) when it's breathed in!
I remember we used chalk back in the 90's, draw on the floor and erase it with your feet to get the right feet placement. But when I visited recently, they had these velvet pads! You know the fabric that looks darker if you push the fibers in one direction, but lighter when they're in another direction! ❤ I love how creative ballet teachers are for thinking of these ideas! ❤

Oh I can guess you had to clean the floor. It was the students themselves. That’s the way a studio I trained at cleaned the floors. Because, who other than dancers care how the floor is maintained?

This should be corn starch. It’s not carcinogenic and can be sucked up with a vacuum cleaner without clogging it up.

I never did this when I did ballet (45 years ago), but it’s a great idea.
