It’s funny my goldfish used to stay afloat in the water while they slept. Some fish prefer to sleep like that sometimes, it’s a shame because I don’t get to see them anymore. They all past away in 2021 and I still miss them, they had such a lot of personalities and they would even come and greet me at the front of the glass and get very excited.

I would occasionally talk to them and they would get very interactive with me and show me how their doing. I loved watching them sleep above the ground and staying afloat in the middle of the tank. They were the best pets I could ever ask for someone with mental health and being my best friends at home while they were alive. I miss them but at least Ive got hundreds of memories of them

I didn’t know about goldfish specifically, but I did know that many fish do this, including trout, and some people catch them while they are asleep by carefully putting their hand under the fish and “tickling it” then flipping it on to the river bank

My tank is right next to my bed. And one night I went to bed and woke up with one of my goldfish staring right at me while sleeping 😂

I have both goldfish and betta fish, the goldfish likes to kinda float around while sleeping, but i make some sort of small house for my betta to sleep in, and he swims straight into it when he wants to have a nap. It's adorable

I used to have a bunch of tetras that when they went to sleep would get paler, almost sick looking and float diagonally nose down. The whole school of ~18 would do it every night cuddled back in a corner of the tank and it TERRIFIED me the first time I caught them. Thought they were dying and checked the water. When they woke up they'd color back up quick and be fine, so I think that's just how the species slept, but man... Some fish take being "dead to the world" too seriously

Tyrone (my betta) does the same thing, I have rocks (not gravel) in his tank and he sometimes lays down on them. It’s pretty cute.
